I'm about halfway through the Dragon's Eye and I can't seem to make more than 9000 gold. Everytime I do, someone in the party dies and we have to resurrect him/her. Does it get easier to get gold later in the game? There's so much I wanna buy but can't....

Save frequently and be prepared to reload when necessary. If your characters are dying too often, think carefully about the strategies you're using. There are many suggestions on this board. I strongly recommend a tank (or two) out front to absorb the shock and everyone else in the rear firing missiles or spells or singing.

There are some formidable clusters of monsters in Dragon's Eye, and it helps in these fights to have multiple characters attacking a single opponent, then moving on to the next one, rather than spreading it out in a series of one-on-one encounters that drain your character's hit points. This simple tactic can take down a mob in a very short time. Summonings, which draw enemy fire away from you, are also important, and should be used, regardless of whether the Summonings are actually doing any damage.

Try to arrange your fights in passages where you can't be surrounded--not always possible, of course--but sending your thief out to draw your enemies back onto you is always a good tactic. And notice if you're getting a "weapon ineffective" message.

If someone is taking too much damage, pull him out instead of letting him die. You should have someone in the second line who's capable of filling in when needed. A Bard, Cleric, or Druid is good for this.

If things go badly, run away and rest. Good luck!

Yea, do not spend money for ressurection, simply reload previous SAVE.

Once your cleric (must be non-evil if you have HoW) reaches level9 he can cast raise dead, for resurrecting dead elves he needs to be at least level 14.

You will gain more gold later in the game since you will find more valuable items later, you can gather several 100,000 gold.
I didn't buy many magical items from Conlan, they are too expensive and my party found better ones later. Only the helm of the trusted defender is really worth it, maybe also the lucky scimitars.

Orrick's Inventory will change once you start chapter 4, so I would buy from him first.
Get the spell scrolls you have to learn, the rogue's cowl and the simmering sash (if your eyes can stand a blurred looking character).

If you sell expensive items, Orrick and the two merchants you can find in chapter3 and 4 pay the most for items they don't sell. Temples don't pay much.

Have someone with 20 cha go shopping for optimal prices, any bard using the friends spells can do.

If he's just after gold, he might as well just console it in.

No matter the game I play, I am a horder. I pick up everything, since once in BG, I was 5 gp short from buying something that I never got the chance to buy again. I never come back to town with an empty inventory slot. Don't forget to fill unused weapon slots, move all jewelry onto someone, move potions up to quick item slots. Then once you get back to town, take a minute to sort your stuff, the merchants pay less once the get too many of one item, i.e. winter wolf or yeti pelts. Who cares your fighter is unable to move after being loaded down in conlan house, just give him all of one item before selling. Only the talker's CHR counts for price ajustment, so if you are loaded down with extra magic items, its well worth a friends spell for the boost in sales price.
There may be some stuff you would like to keep (magic resistance potions, weapons for future duel classing, etc) but why take up invetory space while adventuring. I used the house next to the tavern in Kuldahar as a base. The bookshelf therein makes a great storage container for my junk until I needed it, like before the final battle.

    One small ***Spoiler Note****

The merchant in the severed hand pays top dollar for everything, so DO pick up all that extra crap you might leave behind, because its not magical. And you will make seveal trips back to the hand, so why not cash out there instead of Kuldahar. After selling a couple of extra magic weapons I didn't need, I had well over 200K by ch 5.

Also, I seem to remember the cleric in the dragon's eye had cheap ressurection rates, anyone remember?

Well, I won't do the reload thing unless it's absolutely necessary, but that's good to know about clerics getting raise dead at level 9. I've definitely changed my style of fighting monster so that the characters won't die as often but still it's pretty tough.

Thanks also for the advice about the "friends" spell, I'll try that out.

Good for you and not reloading. That's the way the game is supposed to be played!

Almost forgot: when you're buying stuff, make sure the lead character talking to the merchant has the highest CHA in the group. This will net you a bit of a discount.

If you need just a few gold pieces to buy something you can cast animate dead, kill the skeletons and sell their weapons.

yeah, I have my paladin always talk to the shop owner. btw, are there any items that give a bonus to charisma? he has an 18 but I would like a little more for him....

I probably wouldn't summon skeletons and kill them for that purpose (hahha) but i certainly have picked up their items after I've summoned them for battle.
