Normal or special?

do you guys think that my soon-to-b mage should be a normal mage or a speciality mage?
i personally thinks that speciality mages are too restrictive but what do you guys think?

Not really. Try taking a Wild Mage, since they have no opposite school but still recieve bonus spells, plus some of their wild surges are really funny, and sometimes helpful.

As for the others, I think the Invoker, Conjurer, and Necromancer really shine. Actually, the only good spell the Invoker loses is Greater Malison! Conjurer loses true sight, but other than that is probably one of the best. Look through the spell list in the manual and see which is best suited for you.

You could of course, take a straight Mage, if you want. Casting fewer spells is off set by being able to cast anything you please! I recommend importing one from BG1 with 19 intelligence or taking a gnome, as it will allow you to memorize all the spells for every level, giving you maximum versatality. You could also just drink an intelligence potion then memorize it...

Or try a Sorcerer, they can pick from any type of spell school but only get 5 different spells per level. If you do take a Sorcerer, I highly recommend checking out Roman Gregoriev's Sorcerer Faq, which you can find right here at SP. Sorcerer's are also very versatile because of the fact that they can cast *any* of the spells they know at *any* time! Their spell list will probably be twice as long as any Mage's.

I guess it's too late to say this but I will anyway:). If you use Shadow Keeper you can get(wait for it)

    Edwins Amulet!?!
Well anyway it gives you two more spells per/level if you don't mind cheating.

I personally take it off Edwin to avoid this and peoples death stares.

[IMG] Alienboy exactly how did you Take Edwin's amulet. You can't take it without cheating even if you kill him.

You can take Boo from minsc if you give the dragon all your stuff in the elvin city that i can't spell I supose the same would be true for the amulet but then again the dragon would have it not you.

  7. If you want a challenge, pick a Diviner or an Enchanter. :)

Try a wild mage. I played one just for fun. I thougt that he was not too good and the others would have to do everything but it would be great to have these funny results like colours changing or becoming an animal. But later in the game I found that a wild mage rocks! Of course the chaotic shield is a must but then be ready to cast level 9 spells nearly without limit. First the spells you have remembered and then the level one spell (don't know what it's called). In the final fight I casted whish after each battle to have rest. But you need some attemps for this and my wild mage was able to cast whish about 9 or 10 times. Try that with any other mage.
