so there's this monster race I've been looking at, it's a 50 HD Fey with an ability score of Str 21, Dex 45, Con 37, Int 33, Wis 23, Cha 47, the skill effecting ability Alertness (I don't believe Combat Casting is calculated in to the concentration skill check in 3.0) and a +2 racial bonus to Listen, Search and Spot.

This Fey's Skill set looks like this however: Bluff +38, Concentration +33, Diplomacy +35, Disguise +38, Escape Artist +37, Intimidate +20, Knowledge (local) +31, Knowledge (nature) +31, Listen +30, Move Silently +37, Search +13, Speak Language (any five), Spot +27

Should I just ignore the fact that over half the creature's skill points are unused or should I assign them?

How many skill points does this fey get per level?

If you're looking to use it as a character for yourself, then I would assign the points. If you're going to use it as a boss or NPC in a campaign, then I wouldn't.

the creature gets 17 skill points per level. Because it would force the player to start out with 50 HD of Fey and god knows how large of a level adjust, I'd only ever use it as an NPC. I think you're right with the idea of just ignoring the exessive skill points, that way it ends up without the Fey having a plethra of skills grant +60-70 in skill checks.

Yeah, assiging skill points would be a good idea (although if you don't plan on having him using all of his skills in game, you could just wing it or something -- assuming he's an NPC).
