    Hi All,

I have a $20 from best buy towards my next purchase there and I am wondering if NWN 2 Gold is worth buying. I have delayed the purchase as I have heard horror stories due to GPU issues, etc...

Will my system of an AMD Phenom 8450, 4GB of RAM and a HD3200 overclocked to 750 but can easly reach 950 if needed be able to run NWN2 easily with some graphical features turned on?

If not, than I will definitely look into buying a new video card.

Not too sure about the graphic card, but AFAIK it should be able to run the game fine if you don't turn everything to max.

I've not got NWN2 yet and won't until I get a new system (in the next 5 months if all goes according to plan) but once I get my shiny new PC NWN2 Gold will be one of the first things I buy. Everything I've heard about MotB makes me think I'll love the expansion, so I'm looking forward to it.

Now that I have a system that can easily handle NWN2 I would like to know the difference in game play and character development between NWN1 and NWN2. I'm asking as I am unfamiliar with the 3 and 3.5 D&D rules. Thanks.

There's not much difference between 3 and 3.5, and if you played NWN1, you are familiar with 3.

Personally, I'm waiting for a platium or diamond edition.

The OC is OK, but MotB is really good. Plus there are tons of mods at the vault, so if you liked the original NWN you'll like NWN2.

Although, I'd suggest at least an 8800GT with 512MB of RAM. My 7950GT w/ 256MBs just barely covers it. I think because this game wants 512MBs of RAM is what hampers my card most, but a 3200? Isn't that an IGP chipset? You're going to want a discrete card. I'd recommend a 9800GT w/ 512MBs, you can pick one of for about 130$ or even less if you can find a mail in rebate.

3.5 is just a "rebalance" of 3E. They're the same rules but tweaked in some areas. The changes are all pretty minor (as far as I remember) so it's nothing like the jump from 2E to 3E or from 3E to 4E. I've had a quick play with MotB at a friend's and couldn't really tell at a glance what the rules differences from NWN1 were.

In terms of character building the biggest difference between NWN1 and NWN2 will be the subraces. They're great fun, but you don't really need to use them, and if you use a "regular" race then you're practically creating an NWN1 character (with the minor rule tweaks of course).

there is not much difference, except you now get full party control, some new races, an OC with a much better story and an expansion that is even better.
the new classes added are fun. the changes from 3.0 to 3.5 a minor in most cases, the class which is changed the most is probably ranger.

I purchased a XFX Geforce 8800GS Alpha Dog (overclocked) edition GPU. It is a slightly tuned down 8800GT. It has 384MB of RAM and has a 192MB memory interface. It is slightly slower than a 9600 GT at 1280 x 1024 settings, which is the maximum resolution for my monitor. My card is also considered a 9600 GSO. I should have no problem running NWN2 with my updated system.

As for a 3200 it is the same GPU as the 3450 but most of the motherboard have an overclock feature. When I was running my system I had my system overclocked to 750Mhz and I scored a 4.2 in Windows Vista. When the IGP was overclocked to 950Mhz the window score was 4.7. I almost did not purchase a dedicated GPU but I want to play it save and decided on a middle high end GPU that was very close to the standard in the GPU market. Thinking back on my decision I should of just purchased the 8800GT that PNY had on newegg for $100 as I had a discount code to take $15 off. Oh well.

I purchased the game last night and I reviewed the manual. In addition to some additional race (sub-races) and classes there are some changes to my favorite class the monk, though the changes make the Monk a bit stronger than he already is by giving this class abilities earlier on such as the ki strike and the increase in damage per an attack.

One class that I will have to play is the Warlock as it seems like an cool class. Has anyone played a warlock before and if so, what did you like or dislike about the Warlock class?

After further review I'm now thinking about a Drow Warlock.

I may have to hold off on playing the game as I am trying to complete NWN original OC and HoTU after that as I have not played through those two modules from NWN Diamond edition. All the others I have played and completed.

I figured I should complete all of the prior NWN games before starting NWN2.

I believe a Platium edition will be out early next year if the next epic game is released in mid-November.

It could be because MotB runs fine on my system: nVidia 7900GTO (512 megs) and an Intel E6600 CPU. I've had no issues playing either of the NWN2 games with this combo.
