[OC] Shady Character in Luskan won't become a merchant

    The Shady Character (halfling smuggler) in Luskan won't ask me to see his shop. He just keeps telling me to watch my back.
    I didn't have any problems with the same NPC in Port Llast though. Is this another bug?

    And now I have the same problem with the Shady Character in the Drinking House in Beorunna's Well too.
    She only tells me to watch my back.

    I had the same problem unless my character was a thief. Later I found a non-thief with skill points in the thief skills was able to see the store. I had points in disarming traps, open locks and a few in pick pockets. I hope this still works as its been awhile and I almost always have rogue levels.

    So characters who don't have any rogue levels cannot sell traps after they leave Port Llast?

    You can get him to open his shop if you have artificial points in these skills I think, so just equip Tomi's ring (Ring of the Rogue+1) before talking to him.
    I know for a fact that I've gotten him to open his store while playing druids, clerics and bards with zero hard points in Open Lock/Pick Pocket/Set and Disable Trap.

    I just checked this in 1.69, and it appears that skill modifiers do not work. Thankfully, the script checks your skills each time you try to interact with the Shady Character, so if you add points to the skill later (i.e. as you level up), you can then interact with that merchant.

    How very odd. I don't have any mods active (playing the default GoG version) and these characters definitely had zero points in any thieving skills.
