Old RPGs better?

hey,
I just played Chrono Trigger on an emulator and I think that it is a better RPG than any I have played. The quality of the storyline and gameplay surpasses even Torment! I was wondering if this holds for many old RPG's or if Chrono Trigger stands out on its own. I would like to play some more games like it so if you know of any please tell me.

This topic has come up before. I think the question is was the story-line better in old games. I think we all agree that graphics, sounds, and gameplay are much better today. I do think there were some great RPGs made in years gone by, for example the gold box games. but if we look at the total package modern games are better. I love PoR but there are only so many hour of looking at CGA I can take.

But were the stories better back in the day? I think I can say same were as good, but many were awful and have been forgoten, thankfully. I think part of the issue is just our retro-prospective. We remember these old games with loving memories and tend to gloss over they problems. So I simply think they had good design back in the early 80s and did that best with what they had. And today nothing has changed. Game design, for the most part, do the best with what they have. Do you think a game with the most outstanding story, but Bard's Tale graphics would sell today. It's the total package. And I for one like both the wrapping and what's in the box.

 

fenix, where exactly did you download chrono trigger? i searched for it for a while but after not finding anything for a while i just gave up.
