the other day i was playing about and made an undead hunter. his stats were as follows:

    Str: 18/87
    Dex: 15
    Con: 9
    Int: 7
    Wis: 13
    Char: 17

when i started the game.. he only had 39 hit points! my other paladin (cavalier) had 70. this bothered me, so i created a multiplayer game, and made 6 undead hunters with varying stats, and they all also had 70 hp. so why did the undead hunter have only 39?

    Con: 9

    I think that'd explain it.

God! What are you stupid! First things first, you got a SUPER low roll. I usually accept anything above 85 total. Ok ok ok, think. An undead hunter is a paladin right (another words, a fighter)? You need strength & constitution (charisma maybe)mainly. Then wisdom and dexterity. Then intelligence. Why is your intelligence 9! I usually drain it down to 3 if im not a mage.

Hey Athalon, lay off the man. But spudsquisher. Athalon and Idoru are right. Low constitution will bring it down a lot compared to what it could be. Also, you probably got unlucky rolls. For the first ten levels, your paladin will get 1d10 hit points + 4 if your constitution, and all the way down to -1 if it is really low (can't remember what). And then your paladin will get 3 hit points after lvl 10.
    Hope the responses have helped,
    -Shade

If your intelligence is 3, you won't get as many nor as interesting conversational options later in the game. I'd lower the CHA a little before strip-mining the intelligence that way, especially since there are magical means of increasing your charisma.

But there's no reason that character's not playable. This game is extremely beatable--if people can solo wizard-slayers through it, you can definitely get a paladin with a low constitution through, if you want to. You don't need all 18's to win this one.

But that's why your XP are low, yeah.

[IMG] I have to agree .... your char ... ahem .... isn't what I would call ... ahem ... ballanced. A paladin as an exceptional leader should IMHO have no stat below 10 and I think a fighter's prime stats are con & dex rather than str (since this can be incrceased esily using girdles or overvome by using missile weapons). Anyway, I think it is possible to finish the game with this char - so despite all our mocking and criticism: Play on! :)

Sorry sorry. I didn't know that Intelligence gives you extra options in the game? Such as what?

Not only intelligence ... wisdom as well: wisdom influences for example your possible choices in a limited wish and high intelligence gives you different answering options compared to a dumbass int-2 character. :D

ok, i must point out, that one of the other paladins i made had almost the same roll (only diff was str: 18/88) and he had 70 hp. and the book says that having a constitution from 14 - 6 will make no difference to hp!

[IMG] You should have reduced the dexterity instead of constiution(bracers of dexterity raises it back to 18).

I have a suggestion about how you can increase the HP-s of your char!

Start a new game with the most easy difficulty level. If you do this, then you'll have at least 70 HP-s with even a 9 con. at level 7! You can change the diifculty level later.
