In the 3.5 PH, page 44, it says at 3rd level paladins gain immunity to lycanthropy. What if the paladin contracted it before level 3? Does (s)he "become cured" and lose the lycanthropy? I'm asking about 3.5 edition. I know very little about 4th and nothing about 5th. I played some 1st and 2nd edition a long time ago but nothing ever came up like lycan paladins.

According to the 3.5 SRD under
    www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/lycanthrope
"Lycanthropy as an Affliction" if you catch lycanthropy you change your alignment and temporarily lose control of the PC which becomes a NPC during the first changes into your animal form. And if you fail will checks you may change alignment to the animals alignment permanently - so depending on the actions and alignment the inflicted Paladin has a large risk to become a fallen Paladin unable to actually gain further levels without atoning before.

If you assume that lycanthropy is a disease, then becoming immune to disease will also cure any and all diseases that afflict you. If you assume that lycanthropy is a curse that's only spread through a disease, then the affliction will remain until the curse is broken. This is the part where a DM comes in and tells you what's what.
