    Just to clearify here I'm talking about table top not CRPGs. In a game you need a balanced party not of conversation. And playing different type of character is not as important because putting it simply you are not really playing then only controlling them. i.e. it's not 'really' role-playing.

    I think every game is a little different. It depends on your players. Some people play certain type of character better than others. For example I rerely play mages or thieves. But I love druids, clerics, paladins, bards and the like.

    This aside I think a well balanced party would be;

    -2 warrior types, fighter, paladin, or barbarian
    -1 healer divine caster, cleric, speciality preist or druid
    -1 magic user, mage, specialist, or sorcerer
    -1 scout type, thief or ranger
    -1 misc type, bard or monk

    With multi classes and presteige classes you can mix this up a bit.

    I primarily play BG and like computer games And I never could come up with a party there I realy liked and the charictors got along so I would export my multi game to single and only use Imoan (I think I got that right)as my thief I would use a sorcerer inted of a mage bc they can cast more spells per day even if they must wait longer to get them
