Paul Kemp - Shadow's Witness

    WotC is putting out new editions of the Sembia Seven series complete with great new covers. Paul Kemp's book Shadow's Witness came out this month and I wanted to plug it. This is Paul Kemp's first FR book and it is the BEST first book for any FR author. The book centers around Erevis Kale an assassin turned butler. Kale is a fantastic anti-hero and Kemp does a great job of exploring Kale's inner struggle between duty and honor. Kale is actually an assassin/spy placed in a high ranking Sembian family posing as butler, but he begins to feel close to them and begins to see them as his adoptive family. Kale is a great study in the anti-hero. Dont be put off by my discription and think that the book is all emotion, there are some great, well paced action scenes. Also Kale's side-kick Jak Fleet is a very funny touching character adn one of the best halfling characters in the FR.
    If you are looking for FR's next great author I highly suggest Kemp's Shadow's Witness.

    I read all the Sembia novels when they first came out and agree that Shadow's Witness was one of the better ones. Also, while I missed the next installment, the Erevis Cale Trilogy, I picked up Shadowbred which came next and Erevis Cale is freakin awesome. But among the Sembia novels, The Shattered Mask is the best imo.

    I agree. Kemp and Rich Wulf are the best authors of D&D novels out there.

    The Heirs of Ash trilogy, which is set in Eberron. The first two books are out, the third follows later this year.
