PayPal Virus

    Don't know if anyone's heard of this one, but there's a new virus in circulation. The return line on the e-mail reads that it's from PayPal.com and it says something like "Your subscription is about to expire."

    Perked my attention whenever I saw that. I don't have PayPal, yet this stuff keeps getting e-mailed to me.

    I think there might be another one that pretends to be from Microsoft. It looks really professional, but the return address is something really weird like srk-vjedsnc@support.net (not that, but something like it).

    It wants you to download a WinXP update -through email? How does it know you've got WinXP?

    Various PayPal scams have been appearing every few months for the last few years, so it's nothing new.

    As for the Windows Update scam - it doesn't know. It just sends out the same to everyone. Most people have XP anyway.

    That's what I was trying to say. I meant that, if it was legit, then how would MS possibly know what you're running?

    It was more of a rhetorical question. ;)

    Erm, MS would know if you were running XP since it has to be registered...

    However, they would not have your email address, and updates will be notified when you're on the web by XP itself unless you disable it.

    With a little common sense most scam-attempts are rather obvious... Seriously, since when has any (legit) company started to spam e-mails for matters like this? Obviously, they would announce it in their website. :rolleyes:
