[IMG] After some searching, I was unable to find a guide anywhere to items that can be stolen from various characters in the game. Does such a guide exist? It grows tedious to walk around pick pocketing everyone to find one or two gold pieces on most of them! The only good thing I've pp'ed so far is a ring of regeneration...

Ribald in the Adventurer's Mart, Waukeen's Promenade: Ring of Regeneration
Guardian Telwyn in the Temple of Helm, Temple District: Helm of Glory (quest reward, if you want to have it before completing the quest)
Tolgerias in the Council of Six Building, Government District: Ring of Ram (He will drop another one after defeating him in the Planar Sphere)
Taquee the Djinn in Trademeet: Bottle of Efreeti
Lord Feveron, in the Bridge district, can be pickpocketed for a scroll of Simulacrum.
The Lady of the Keep, in the de'Arnise hold, can be pickpocketed for a scroll of Protection from Normal Weapons.

These are a few cases where pick-pocketing can get you stuff that you otherwise couldn't. I dont think there is any exhaustive guide to stuff you get from pickpocketing coz its pretty random. But if you have a competent pick-pocket, go crazy. Civilians, gaurds and traders all have something to loose.

I'm quite disatisfied with the pickpocketing in this game.. there is nothing good whatsoever that you can get exclusively through pickpocketing.

I'm still perplexed as to how you can steal almost anything you want (with high enough Pickpocket skill) and yet be a shining example of Good...

Roleplaying vs. Powergaming - simple as that. Your reputation doesn't take a hit if you don't get caught because, let's face it, if no one knows you're stealing, no one will think poorly of you.

Besides, even Good thieves pick pockets. There are a lot of them in D&D novels and such. They think about it as such:

1)I need the ring of regen
2)I don't have the money for it
3)The greater good is served by stealing it
    -----
    Therefore we steal it.

Not that all this RP vs. PG stuff matters in BGII... pickpocketing is next to worthless from what I've seen thus far.

Not that I want to flog a dead horse here, but I think you'll find that an extra Ring Of The Ram is excellent against Kangaxx. Not to debate the ethics of it, but I hardly think a Ring Of The Ram is something to be sneezed at.

Also, if you take the "ethical" approach in the Sahuagin City, you need to steal the second part of the Wave Halberd from the Sahuagin Prince. A +4 Halberd comes in handy against Improved Mantle, elemental fire creatures and the like... not to mention, against a certain demi-lich who is immune to anything less than a +4 weapon.

You are pissed with the pickings in BGII! Try pick-pocketing in IWD II. There is no, and I mean absolutely no, return for spending points on pick-pocketing.

And as far as good people pick-pocketing goes, I usually put it down to the influence of kenders.

Well I know the best guy to pickpocket in the whole game: Kangaxx. If you pickpocket him right when he appears you get ring of Gaxx, then another one when u kill him. Dont tell me you didnt know this... :shame:

I think that regenerating ring is realy a good stuff in the begining of the game... And later dont forget to pickpocket Kangaxx to get two rings... This ability is realy cool!

[IMG] Bahir: You were 3 minutes faster ;)

By the way i cant imagine this game without the ring of regeneration. Otherwise i would need plenty of potions, going to the church all the time. That ring makes i think the BG2 better than the BG1...

Its not that good (but I dunno, since I play with ToB, mebbe its good in SoA without ToB installed)
But regeneration is a damn good thing to have in BG (I), since you only sleep for 1 hp

As does every other +4 weapon and most of them are a lot easier to get hold of than Wave.

Also pickpocket Aran Linvail if you are working for him. He doesn't have much though, just some stakes, a crossbow +2 and something else maybe.

True, but they're not exactly thick on the ground in SoA, and they are usually class-specific (Carsomyr), "lesser" weapons that fighters probably won't have as proficiencies(Cutthroat, Boneblade) or constructed (Crom Faeyr).

Why has nobody mentioned pickpocketing shopkeepers? Doesn't that count as pickpocketing?
Two easy marks are the guys who sell magic scrolls in Waukeen's Promenade. One potion of thievery and you can really stock up on spells early in the game.
I usually have two thieves in the party. One specialises in pickpocketing and the other specialises in disarming traps.

how about stealing from the theif merchant in Arans guild and selling the stolen goods back for unlimited gold? since its part of the game mechanics one would think thats the way the developers ment it to be but why not to give yourself 500k gold with SK instead of spending XY mins stealing and selling back and forth? the result is virtually the same and it does not take any skill at all to steal .. because using SK is cheating? thats a poor argument if you ask me.

i agree with the ppl who said that pickpocketing is either almost useless or just plain cheese and its not implemented well in the game. there so many Potion of Master Thievery and other Potions thieving enhancing in the game that its possible to steal every stealable potion and every stealable spell in the whole damn game, which in turn gives one an incredible advantage, without investing more than 30 points into pick pocket skill :(

    ok i go now.

Deda Jag, you're right, it's bad concept, with 100% pickpocket you're sure to be caught, with 25% and some bottles, it's OK. It's because you can stack the bonus.
NonSequitur, you'll find a good halberd+4, +magical damages in the underdark anyway. It's free, you pay Cromwell nothing for it, and I think it's better against mages because it can disrupt spells even if stoneskinned. But nobody has proficiencies in halberds.
But right, it's one of the few items to pick:
    1) Ribald's ring of regeneration (not really cheesy as it only improves convenience after fights- not an asset in fight)
    2) Djinn's bottle in Trademeet
(You can attack djinns too, but normally you make business with them)
    3) Halberd piece on the rebel prince in Shark city
Only the first is really worth it.
Pickpocketing for the ring of ram, the ring of Gaxx,
the helm of glory is no good, you're not supposed to have these items this way.
