Are you asking specifically about the pantaloons or items in general?

Assuming they're like any other item, as long as you put them in a place you can get to later (meaning, don't put them in a barrel in candlekeep), then yes, they should be there.

You could always try it, place them in a barrel, exit the area, and come back. It'll take two minutes.

Anyway, for general storage I'm a big fan of the spider house in Beregost because it has a chest and dresser inside, and two barrels outside, which makes for easy sorting of the various armor, weapons, potions, and scrolls you collect during the game. The houses in the Friendly Arm Inn area and the inn in the first area of Baldur's Gate you enter are also decent local storage areas since you'll presumably be returning to those areas often for rest and resupply.

Things don't disappear when you put them in barrels, chest, boxes, etc.. As Berksmasher said, just don't store things in Candlekeep during the prologue.

I like the old ladies house in FAI, after you give her the ring, she leaves and never comes back. I even leave NPCs there if I think I will want them later.

I usually base out of the house in Beregost that is full of spiders. It is centrally located, good for storing treasure, or unused NPCs. And I can burry dead bodies in the back yard.

I usually have three bases. The chest in the main room of the FAI, the abandoned house just west of Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost, and the house of the necromancer in Baldur's Gate who asks you for a body (after I've killed him, of course). I would prefer four, but there's really nowhere in Nashkel where you'll never get busted; the carnival is too far away from the shop to be worth it.

Why don't you use the hotel room beside the store in Nashkel, Felinoid? :D I use the room at the back. I store arrows, notes and Branwen there while my guys adventure in the areas around.

In Beregost, I use one of the cabinets upstairs in Firebead Elvenhair's house. I figured since he knows me well, he can spare a chest for my belongings!

In Gullykin, I used the first house to stash my stuff, after I killed the evil halfling.

At the FAI, I actually use a cabinet in the kitchen! LOL! I think its a better idea for roleplaying to use one of the houses though! Ha!

I actually used the Thieves Guild (where the store is) to stash my items in Baldur's Gate when I played it for the first time last year. But I think now, I'll do as you do, and use the dudes house who asked me for a body! Either that or the tower in NE Baldur's Gate or something. Good locations!

If you use the inn, there's a chance of being discovered by someone wandering the halls. I've had it happen when I was robbing...er, I mean cleaning the place.
