I reckon we should have cooler politics. The others never ever ever ever smile and they are about as exciting as a school trip to Boringo House.

One of them should be a hippy, :hippy: like John Lennon

    Teeny
(...Ian Duncan Smith is two people, right?)

Well, we had a politician like you describe, but some jerk decided differently and shot him.

Sadly politicians arent general people any more, they are more or less breeded like racing horses since infancy to say the right things and have the right look. They have lost all contact with the people they represent due to never having been one. There are always exceptions but all too many are handpicked since a young age by the predecessors and indoctrinated in the 'right' belief. This is more or less true on all places on the political spectra.

I think a lot of politicians are too tidy, they should not be so serious about everything. There a few Dutch politcians who make politics more interesting, but most of them don't. Lately I'm following politics a bit more and find that they are as boring as most people think.

[IMG] My politics goes no further than the politics in games, my world, D&D, DI Rulesets, Materia Magica.

Well, two you should know of :p
    (Materia Magica is a MUD)
(DI Ruleset - like a D&D Ruleset, except a bit more intricate, not that D&D isn't)
    (MY world - MY rules)

It depends on what form of uber politics you subscribe to. Fidel Castro is the dictator of Cuba, though he's spent most of his time recently shaking hands with Hollywood types. He's generally a very mild Saddam Hussein without as much power.

Hey don't diss Castro, when a BBC reporter was assaulted in Cuba, he put every man he could on finding the culprit and even visited the reporter to see how she was. Besides, America just hates Cuba because, shock horror, they have different belifs for goverment than them.
Hmmm, now i really fancy a cuban cigar.
But anyway, my point that i actually wanted to make is this:
Bush and Blair want everyone to become politically apathetic, that way, they stay in powrer and get to do whatever they want. The apathy has already begun and the way it's going they'll get their wish. I think that we should pay attention to what politicians do and when they happily accept a 20% pay rise recommendation on their £70,000 a year from an indepentant assessor, but reject the same recommendation for an emergency service from the same source we should nail them.
Make them live on our minimum wage, our benefits, they will soon come to appreciate the people.
The time for the revoloutin is upon us, are you with me? :D
Oppp, sorry, thats the other forum, with the meeting tomorrow night at the docks ;) .

Joacquin, *European* politicians are bred to become such (in France it's the ENA, don't know what the equivalent is in Sweden), but in the states and in Australia, that's hardly the case. My congressional representative in Texas used to be an exterminator. Colin Powell was a military man. Ronald Reagan was an actor, as was Clint Eastwood, as was the honorable senator from Tennessee (can't remember his name...the admiral in The Hunt for Red October). Jesse Ventura was a professional wrestler, for cryin' out loud. There are no institutions of higher learning which are specifically designed to produce politicians as there are in Europe.

Not that that's necessarily a good thing. My representative in Texas is a fella by the name of Tom Delay. You may have heard of him. If you haven't, and knowing your politics as I do, believe me, there's exactly nothing about him that you'd like.

I was not talking about official politician school or anything of the kind. Everything is strictly unofficial. I also said that there was exception and I actually thought about Ventura when I said that. It is not really about having a job but here atleast most join the youth section of their party at a young age and are then groomed and indoctrinated by the elder partycomrades until they have a bunch of clones that cant see past their narrow little world of politics. I think Bush is a shining exemple of that being the son of a president and all. I know that he has been doing all kinds of stuff but he has always lived in that world.

Certainly in the UK, there is a problem with "career" politicians. They have never had jobs or in all honesty probably never had a life outside politics.

It creates very colourless politics, where presentation becomes more important than the message etc.

I think it should be a requirement that our politicians should have worked for at least 10 years outside politics before they are allowed to stand as parliamentary candidates. It might just give them some perspective.
