[IMG] What age do you think they are / should be? This is meant to be an opinion poll for my mod for the dragons & dragon armors when I make it.

Each question is for a different dragon and their scales. The HD (d8 hit dice) and AC listed with the question are modified by the answer. For simplicity's sake, I have reduced each to a non-existant "0th" age category. For the HD you simply add the age category, and for the AC you simply subtract the age category (making it better in both cases). The dragon's scale armor will be 4 points of AC worse than the dragon's AC itself; for example, the Red Dragon Scale would be AC -1 only if you chose "Adult: 101-200 years" with an AC of -5 for Firkraag.

    Notes:
-The dragon in Hell (Pride Trial) was left out because I don't want to mess with that when I've got Revised Hell Trials, which changes it a bit. If you like, you can post on what age you think that silver dragon (IIRC) should be.
-Questions 3, 7, & 8 are regarding dragons that will require WeiDU modding to modify Cromwell's dialogue to accept new scale items. This would only exist in a later version after I have mastered WeiDU. Question 6 may remove that requirement from one of them by simply adding the same kind of scales as Firkraag (and thus the same kind of armor) to the Watcher's Keep red dragon.
-Only young adults and older can produce dragon fear. Therefore if you have experienced dragon fear while combatting a specific dragon, you should then assume that it is at least a young adult (50+ years old).
-The hit dice aren't actually as simple as I laid out for the younger ones. Hatchlings would really have 2 less than marked, Very Young dragons would have it as marked, and Young dragons would have 2 more than marked. Juveniles do have 4 more than marked though, and so on as laid out above.

I think it would be nice to get a little more input on this, maybe 10 or 12 more votes.

On a different note, I have never understood why the White Dragon Scale Armour has a better ac rating than the other dragon armors and allows you to use thief abilities as well!

Something that came up in another thread was making the silver dragon armor usable by mages. While I initially dismissed this as a ridiculous idea, I got to thinking about how it might work, and I came up with dragon scales sewn into a mage robe. Basically it would require one of the Robes of the Archmagi as a component, to sew the dragon scales into, and would of course be less effective armor-wise than a regular suit of armor (probably around AC 0).

One problem that comes up with this is which robe? Should it be sewn into a good robe because the good scales would react badly with an evil robe but work with a good robe? Should it be sewn into an evil robe because of the evil act that killing a good dragon is? Should it be sewn into a neutral robe because it can't be good or evil due to the reasons above? Maybe I should I just make it an Improved Robe of Vecna cheesefest? :p Or should I just stick with straight scale armor?

Can I stop asking questions now?

You may stop asking questions any time you wish, Felinoid, but I doubt that you can stop asking questions.

I like the idea of the scales being sewn into a mage robe and I think that the robe should be neutral for the reasons you give. Unless the evil act of killing a silver dragon taints the scales and therefore they might be evil???

Please don't make the Robe of Vecna any cheesier than it is unless you can only get it very, very, very late in the game.

I definitely would not go with the Improved Robe of Vecna. That would be a cheesefest! I do think the Robe of the Arch-Magi Idea is on the right track. The alignment Qestion is one to ponder. I think making it an option to be used as straight scale armor or mage robe is a good idea.

Well, Abazigal can't be too old, seeing that time of troubles was not that long ago.

The Time of Troubles was about 20 years before BG1, I believe, but Bhaal did know far in advance that he was going to die. Which is why I think Abazigal is probably at least 100 years old; an elven Bhaalspawn would be of about the same age.
Mostly, arrogance is a trait of the young. Looking at humans, it prevails in about the 13 to 30 or 40 area (which I'm smack in the middle of, so don't think I'm putting young people down).

Three additional tweaks on the robe issue:

    1. Availability of the robes within the game. I'm sure at least one of the types isn't even in there. But seeing as this will be in the WeiDU version only, I suppose I can fix that.

    2. Using the alignment restricted robes will mean that some can't use it. The mages in the game are mostly good (3), but there are one each of the neutral and evil varieties, to say nothing of mod NPCs. However, a possibility exists for using the dragon's blood to taint the scales so that it may be used in an evil robe, and then no tainting would mean good or neutral. Naturally, there would be more than enough blood in a sliver dragon to both taint scales and a suit of human flesh, so I'd double that item.

    3. More dragons. Talking (well, typing ;) ) about Abazigal reminded me of two more dragons in the Abazigal's Lair area. One is Draconis, and the other is the one that's enspelled into guarding Abazigal's throne room. Draconis being a mage, he could be the good option (killing an evil dragon), while Adalon could be the neutral/evil option. Though if you've got both Jan and Edwin, I guess you're just screwed / use the Robe of Vecna. :p

I would think you would need to sew it into an evil robe. My reasoning: in PnP, really nasty things happen if a good/neutral/evil wizard dons a robe of the Magi of the wrong alignment.

There's a piece missing from your reasoning. Specifically, what the scales have to do with it (I can guess, but I'd like to be sure :) ).

I ckecked your poll and I'm glad that you also decided to leave out the challenge dragon (in 5th level of WK). I don't know if you left him out knowingly or not, but if you had decided to tamper with that particular dragon, your mod would have become incompatible with Improved Anvil.

No, that was just not remembering about it. Which is a little weird since I just fought him less than a week ago. :shake: But with that info, I think I'll just plain leave it out. Thanks. :)

Damn, I just realized that puts the dragon count up to eleven! I never thought there were nearly a dozen dragons in the game... :mommy:
