I'm not sure where I came up for the idea of this poll but I thought it might be kind of interesting.

I would like to know if you people have had any minor or major diseases, and how many of them.

Minor diseases I would consider as chicken pox, measels, some STD's etc. that are curable and or short-lived.

Major diseases are things like cancer, heart-disease, thyroid diseases, diabetes etc.

QQ for the second and fourth questions: If there was a disease that you got and cured over and over and over (as in, say, multiple sinus infections ;) ), would that be counted only once, or for every time you had it?

I've had the colds and kiddy things. Now I have gout, Bell's palsey (remission) and pseudo Parkinson's. Oh and there's this little blindness issue, too. ;)

This is a weird poll. I wonder if it will get moved to one of the Alleys. Serious things going on.

What on earth is the difference between a minor disease and a major one?

@ Fel - I would probably count a single disease as once regardless of how many times you have contracted it. I'm not sure that a sinus infection is a disease however, unless it as a symptom of a different body malfunction.

@ HB - I did write what I thought the difference between a major and a minor disease is in my opening comment. I realize that it is a little difficult to make a differenciation in a lot of cases but I'm hoping that people can generalize. If you notice, I did leave an option open for people if they are not sure.

I've had a few minor ones like pneumoniaand gladular fever, that sort of thng. But my life wouldn't be interesting without my major one, multiple sclerosis.

I've lost count of the minor ones - UTIs, larynghitis, angina, chicken pox, dystonia... but easily more than five. As for major ones, well,m I am technically disabled due to being rather messed up in the head :D

Breast Cancer and Diabetic II. Bleeding ulcers might not be considered by some a disease but it almost killed me. Some other problems such as poor circulation. But I put 3 as major.

A sinsus infection is, I believe, both a symptom and a disease. At least I was treated for a very serious sinsus infection.

Well I've had many many times Asthma, but in my youth I was hospitalised like 7 times. I almost DIED each time of 'em also. By your standard it's a minor one, but still something that can KILL me is kinda Major to me :p

I had hernia, inguinal hernia. Inguis is latin and means groin. At least it sounds bad enough, worse than i felt when i had it :)
Luckily it was taken care of, althought it required a surgeon. Could have been lethal in few years.

Oh, sinus infections classify as minor diseases alright. If you've ever had one, you know how horrible they are.

Minor: multiple sinus infections (at least a dozen so far), asthma, UTI (circumsized at 10 as a result)

    Major: Nothing...yet. :mommy:

    EDIT:
Oh, and chicken pox is kind of a given.

Well, I must have had 100s of minor diseases then. You guys must be super healthy if you have only had one or two. Even my two year old son must have had half a dozen already.

I didn't really have any of the childhood diseases except possibly chicken pox but if it was I only got one or two spots.

The only disease I've had was gestational diabetes but I think I would classify that form of diabetes as minor because it generally disappears after the baby is born. It was a major eye-opener though and I eat very healthy now because of it.

Fel, I know about sinus infections. And Asthma can be a very serious, even fatal disease. Some of the things we tend to rank a minor can be and are major to others.

To me a bee or wasp sting is nothing but I know others that could die from a sting. Allergies are not to be laughed at.

Damn. I'll never complain about anything ever again.

Worst I've ever had was some kind of generic influenza, plus the old annual piddling coldlike irritant/bronchitis/sinus thing/whatever.

My dad has type 1 diabetes and my mum has type 2, though, which is worrying.
