I'm a black belt in a style called kajukenbo. I was wondering if any one else does karate or something.

I studied Chyroku Rikije (shu-RO-koo RIK-ee-jay) Karate up to a brown belt; it's an American blend of Kempo and traditional Okinawan forms.

Did grappling (unofficially Jiu Jitsu) for almost 1 year; no belts, but probably the most practical style there is. I recommend it for anyone who wants to end a fight quickly while avoiding permenant damage to your opponent. Or...fold the guy into a pretzel and break him in half. Whatever floats your boat. :thumb:

Shorin Ryu (Okinawan karate) for 2 months and hated it. Way too much kata to be interesting. For those who don't know what Kata is, it's basically performing a series of moves and techniques in a set pattern, kind of like a dance, used for repitition and practice. If you lack discipline (and I often do) steer clear of this one.

@fauzman: Maybe add other choices to the poll like "I used to but quit" or "I'd like to start."

Hmm, never did karate, but I've been doing judo and some good 'ol fashioned boxing for a few years.

[IMG] My unarmed combat training lets me whale on any iraq fool while he whimpers and begs for mercy.

Probably the only useful thing I learnt in the army.

I have some experience in both Judo and Karate. But I still best remember the latest self-defense / combat sports, being Thai-Boxing and Krav-Maga. All in all I've been training different martial and combat arts for around 8-9 years, but only a couple of years each. Right now I'm just going to the gym and jogging, thinking about starting some Ju-Jutsu / Aikido-Jutsu training in the next year or so.

My brother taught me the Marine Corps eye gouge :) . That's about as much as I know about martial arts, hehe.

I'm much too much of a clumsy flake to ever get into that kind of thing.

I did Shokokai Karate for a few year, about 3 years ago. For the past 3 years i've been wanting to get back into it, but lack motivation. Plus, at the moment, i'm more interested in doing more in the way of body building/toning. Once i've got the required build/tone that i want, i'll get back into karate. Rekon if my summer goes to plan, i can get back into it in september. Sweet.

I use my bigger friends in fightning, or use my mind and do not involve anything at all.

Not karate, but kick-boxing. Balances well against my otherwise computerized and schoolzerized day.

Studied a little bit of karate. (But I've spent years of my life playing Ken in Street Fighter 2, so that's gotta put me at least at, oh, say a brown belt, right? :) )

I've boxed a fair amount. Oh, and I got to do some work in the ring with a local independent wrestling organization. Fun stuff!

I'm up for my blackbelt in Judo, have several years of experience in JiuJitsu, as well as a couple of years of training in DocePares Escrima and HybridArnis. (The latter consists of several martial arts, of which KungFu is one.)

My sister has taught me a few tips and tricks, such as how to fall or how to punch someone properly seeing as she is the martial arts whiz of the family (Ju-jutsu, Tae Kwon Do and Aikido...) and I am planning on starting Aikido lessons at some point soon...
I was supoposed to get an Aikido class from her as a Chistmas prezzie but that sort of fizzled down and died...
I would most like practising Yoahinkan Aikido... After reading Angry White Pyjamas by.... *searches for the name in vain* I got impressed. REALLY impressed :D

(*Looks at a snickering Smith... * Got something to say?)

I studied some karate from a few different places when I was a kid. I sort of liked it, but never had the discipline to stick with it and practice every day -- there were too many books to read. I'd like to take the Tae Kwon Do lessons here in my town offered by a friend of mine, but I have a trick knee and don't want to aggravate it. My friend taught me a few Jeet Kun Do moves as well. Luckily, I've never had to fight.
