*spoken with great anguish* Poll.... withdrawal .... cannot ..... resist .... temptation ... must.... post.... a ..... poll.

OK, this one is about fantasy sports. No, you sick little freaks, nothing involving Paris Hilton or the like. I'm talking about Fantasy sports where you draft players from a real sports team and then their performance in real life determines how well your team does. So, do you play Fantasy sports, and if so, what kinds? I have played a little fantasy baseball, but I never really got into it. American football on the other hand, I'm completely addicted to. I play every year for about the past 5 years or so, and most years I have more than one team.

(Is there such a thing as Fantasy European Football, a.k.a. soccer? I'm thinking there has to be, but real soccer isn't popular enough in the U.S. for a fantasy version of the sport to show up.)

I have played a few times through the years but nothing consistently. I think I have had one season of hockey and one season of football (World). I didnt vote as either answer would be a lie. :)

I played in a modified, office-based Fantasy Baseball League for one season, but it was too cutthroat to be enough fun to warrant going back the next year. Amazing how one spiteful jacka$$ can spoil something...

Well, I like much NFL but I never understand games made of it, there is too much strategy and games (like EA's) have no much of room for "my plays"; I play EA's FIFAs but I've noticed that evey year is the same so I stayed at 2002 and I make my own team with almos unknow players to do the game a little bit more interesting; I play Nascar games too, but you can trick every racer (let's say I don't like Jeff Gordon so I can make you run veeeery slow); the NHL games also I like so MLB related. I'm looking for CartChamp games because I miss circuits (Laguna Seca, etc) and I bored of IRL Cart racing where I have behind me always De Ferran, Castroneves and the guy who raced with the yellow car (Jr something). Is that what you asked?

PS. Yes, there are soccer games, lots of them, the most famous is EA's FIFA xx; it came from since France road to the world cup, then they just put FIFA 99 and so on to this day's FIFA 04.

No, no, no. I'm not taking about video games or computer games, I'm talking about fantasy games. They are played traditionally using pencil and paper, but most people now use automated services on the internet to keep track of all the stats.

Sydax, it works like this - I'll use my football league as an example. Myself and nine other guys from work got together at the beginning of the season, and held a draft. We selected players from real NFL teams to be on our "Fantasy Teams". You get players from all different teams to make up your fantasy team. Then the performances of the individuals you drafted during their real games, translate into fantasy points for your fantasy team.

For example: My starting running back is LaDanian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers. When he scores a touchdown, the Chargers get 6 points. However, for that weekend of games, when he scores a touchdown my fantasy team gets 6 points as well.

Personally, I love the NFL, and I think my interest in Fantasy Games is to highten the experience of the games.

    EDIT: Spelling

Sydex, actually, the first FIFA game is from ´93 and is called FIFA Soccer/Football and was for the SNES. The last SNES and the first N64 football game was FIFA 98: Road to the World Cup-

I have never played in one myself but the guy in the office next to me is like Aldeth - dabbles in baseball and hugely into American football.

He was quite upset with me when I gave him a new computer and he found himself unable to log onto his fantasy baseball - he claims that there were security features built into the cookies and there is no way to get back in without those cookies. I can't say that I believed him and I sure as hell wasn't going to provide fantasy baseball tech support for an office computer. :shake:

Now he declines accepting computer upgrades when he is in mid-season. :D

You have all of them. Sydax? Damn, I only have FIFA2001 and FIFA95, but I've played them all, and 2001 is the best.

Can anyone link me to a good football manager? Not NFL, of course.

I have at various times played:
    - Fantasy Cricket (World Cup and English County)
    - Fantasy Rugby (World Cup, Six Nations, Tri-Nations, Super 12, and NZ NPC)
    - Fantasy Rugby League (Australian NRL)
    - Fantasy Soccer (English Premiership, Euro, World Cup)
    - Fantasy Baseball (American)
    - Fantasy Basketball (NBA)
    - Fantasy NFL

I usually do appallingly badly, except Fantasy Cricket where I can usually reach a placing that is at least respectable.

Fantasy sports rock. It makes it much more interesting to watch the games when you have something at stake (especially for sports that I might not otherwise take the time to follow closely).

Off topic: I also play the fantasy movie game at Hollywood Stock Exchange.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned hockey pools yet. I haven't been in one for some time now, but I used to be in them several years ago; in fact, I even won a couple of them. :)

I'm involved in a hockey, basketball, American football, and Baseball fantasyleague. The only reason we didn't add a footyleague to it, is because the Canadian and American participants in our little group have too little knowledge of the players and teams. It's the Yahoo fantasy leagues, fairly easy to create a league of your own if there's enough interrest from others to join you.

Im not in any. I consider sports that i'm not actually playing to be boring anyway. I remember once changing one of my classmates "favorites" links which was for "Virtual NRL (National Rugby League)" and changing it to a similarly URL'd lotsalag link. No, I won't post a link - I dont want to get banned when people click on it, since it crashes your computer. Kinda funny though when in Computer Studies someones computer starts yelling "You are an Idiot!" on maximum volume... heh.

    Anyway, no.

I fail to understand what you mean, but there's still a chance I did something like that when drunk.
