Just like last year! Make your predictions, be wrong, have people laugh at you. I just kept forgetting to do one of these again! Go Leafs, BTW. Boo Ottawa!

I would love to see the Leafs win but I really don't think that it is likely to happen anytime soon. They spend enough to ensure they are upper middle of the pack so they are unlikely to either buy themselves a cup or get the top draft picks needed to develop a superior team.

My money would be on either Dallas or New Jersey. Given that Jersey won last year I will say Dallas this year. I don't think that either Colorado or Vancouver have the goaltending to win. As for Detroit, I just have a feeling that their stars are getting older and that coupled with their goaltending controversy will knock them out of contention.

I share the same thoughts as JSBB... especially about the lack of goaltending for Colorado and the regressing players in Detroit. Vancouver's defense has improved from last year so far (second fewest goals allowed in the league as of last weekend as stated by local newspaper), so I suspect they could go to at least the conference finals.

But my pick for the cup winner would be Tampa Bay. They've got a great goalie and lots of young offensively skilled players.

Yeah it's all about goaltending. I agree that the Harlem Globetrotters....err...I mean Avalanche don't have the goaltending they need to win a cup, but they sure do have the goal scoring power.

I'd like to see the Blackhawks win, but that ain't gonna happen for awhile. Next comes the Fliers, damn half the team are X-Hawks, but there's that old goaltending issue again.

So I voted for New Jersey. They are pretty solid all around.

Oh yeah, I should probably say that the second question is your honest opinion, not who you want to see win. If it was, I would totally have gone with Toronto.

I would agree with you if I had a case of insomnia and needed to get to sleep. Until then I will stick with watching hockey.

We've got a new logo, new state of the art arena, new players...same old results :almostmad:

Tough to be a Coyotes fan. Anyone in Winnipeg want them back?...even let you have Gretzky, too.

@ Ofelix - It would be nice if the Canadiens would win but I really don't think that this year's team has what it takes to win it all. I would still prefer to see the Leafs finally win a cup during my lifetime but I really don't think they have what it takes to win either. :(

    @Reepnorp - Yes I did.

On the same topic, do any of you know where I can find some really, really, really old records of the NHL? And when I say old, I mean like 1928, 1929, and 1930.

Sir Bel is quite correct provided that you are willing to jump through some hoops to get access to the information. Such historical data is available in the London Life Hockey Resource Centre located in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

According to the Hall of Fame's web site the Resource Centre is open to the public, by appointment for research from 10am to 4pm Monday
through Friday, except on holidays.Access to the Resource Centre by appointments only.

You can access on-line information about individual players at one of the Hall of Fame's subsites

    http://www.legendsofhockey.net/html/search.htm

According to the site's blurb it has stats (including non-NHL pro team stats) and bios for every player who has ever appeared in the NHL. I don't know if this is true but I have come across entries for a few career minor leagers who had only a couple NHL games on their resumes.
