[IMG] Here is my reason for asking this:
In ToB there are so many weapons with fantastic abilities that just being able to equip two weapons is great, never mind that you can do damage with both weapons. In the later stages of SoA you can get the Crom Faeyr which certainly qualifies as an incredible off hand weapon, but ToB is absolutely crawling with incredible weapons, so this poll belongs in ToB.

How many great shields are there to counterbalance this? Is it possible that an improved AC from a great shield can be as useful as a second weapon? What about on "Insane" difficulty where monsters do double damage; is a better AC worth it then?

Is it possible for Two-handed weapons - with the exception of Carsomyr - to compete with dual wielding?

[IMG] I'd say no, considering that I only had one NPC (Valygar) dual wield in the whole game. With the amount of damage you keep taking later in the game, a shield is definitely needed. Or you can keep buying 50 healing potions and gulping them down in every battle... It's a matter of play style I suppose. I had three tanks heavily armoured and two shielded (one had a two-handed sword), and Valygar always came sneaking behind and attacking when the monsters were hitting the tanks hard...

I'd have to say that it is. There are no shields in the game that can compete with some of the best weapons, and not even Carsomyr can compare with some of the best combinations.

Towards the end of the game, it begins to become a bit more balanced, but by that point I always tend to have more healing potions than I know what to do with.

[IMG] If the character is dual wielding in the first half of the story, it´s somewhat easier. But in the second half a shield is a must, since most of the battles are done by magic(big ones anyway) and fighters only job is to delay the enemy. In overall I´d say: no, dual wielding is not overpowered.
