[IMG] Ok this just popped into my head and i don't think it's been asked before. I wondered whether the majority of people on these boards play P&P and/or CRPGs and which they prefer.

    Oh, Pencil and Paper, definitely.

Only in PnP can you get the drama, the true romances, the true feeling for your characters. Sure, Planescape: Torment made us all (Those who played it) care for our character and his friends, but in PnP you find yourself either liking or dislike characters just by how they talk etc.

And of course, cheaing is very hard to do in PnP, there's no way to attack Drizt Do'Urden and let a pesky lake get in his way from cleaving you apart, there's no re-loads, so you really do care about what you'e doing. The bad point is that when you get annoyed you can't go around and kill all the wenches and beggars in the streets, then just reload when you've got rid of your anxiety.

If you said it, you're doing it - The most infamous DM rule ever.

P&P for me... Games like Baldur's Gate and all the others are good, very good, but rarely do people play to actually roleplay and take the romances seriously (blaah, blah blah)

You know in BG there's a load of people just playing to win... spending half an hour rolling stats... checking the walkthu beforehand to know what proficiencies to allow... murdering everyone without realizing the point of it.

The thing is, anyone can play a CRPG. Not everyone cares enough to actually roleplay and sit through it... There's realistic combat, realistic consequences, romance, dialogue, characters, and that's when you weed out the ones that won't play the real game as another life.

    PnP, definitely.

I like CRPGs, but I also like jumping IC, and doing things that I otherwise couldnt do, just by saying and imagining that I am doing it. :D

    Definetely PnP.
Currently we are without a DM, but I enjoy it a lot more than CRPG's, for reasons stated above.

I prefer P&P also, but my scedule is so whonky I have a hard time getting together with a group.

Herf, our DM once ran us through an "outtake" scenario that wasn't part of the real game... we had fun, and killed everything...

[IMG] Yuo guys can be so happy you live in *educated* enviroment. I wouldnt know what PnP is if i wouldnt play BG. And i came across BG by accident(didnt even know what that is :( ).
I live somewhere in the middle of nowhere and i bet no one even knows what PnP is in radius 4 km.
    So i know only CRPG :( :( :(
But i expect someday to get to civilization ;) so then i'll get a chance to play PnP.

As much as i know about PnP its better than CRPG 'couse people play it and not AI (Drizzt in BG1 killed only with critical hits lasted hours). And more interactions :)

P&P is definitely better than CRPG though now that I don't have anyone to play with I like CRPG to.

I played PnP back in my college days, but now it's too difficult to get a group of us "family guys" together for a PnP campaign. I miss the PnP games/campaigns, :( but the CRPG's fill the void to some extent.
CRPG's add the visual & audio dimensions to the game, along with the NPC interactions.
PnP breathes life into the player characters, gives them personalities, and there is less predictability.

[IMG] You know that old expression "Nothing beats the real thing", well P&P is the real thing. I enjoy CRPGs but they are still far more limited than a table top session. You lack human creativity, fully interactive environments and all the imagination of the players and the DM. Not to speak of the social aspects. I play CRPGs when I can't play P&P. I like them both but the real thing is clearly the better.

I have to vote for cRPG's in both categories ... in a perfect world where I have unlimited time, I would rather be in a good P&P group. Time is limited (unfortunately) and the last few P&P groups I've tried were rather ... lame.

So, until Hell Freezes over and my wife gives me one night a week to be out, give me CRPG's or give me death! :good:

I prefer CRPGs for the simple reason that I have never played otherwise. I take my role-playing *very* seriously and probably wouldn't notice the difference playing either apart from the fact that I probably would strangle my enemies in real life, whatever that is.

Unfortunately, my gaming group recently broke up, so I can't do P&P anymore until I find another group, but I still find it infinitely more entertaining than the CRPGs when you have a good DM.

    Alway prefer my P&P games.

But disappointed when anyone refers to themselves as a DM, not GM.

I've been a part of gaming groups that have both a DM and a GM. The DM (Dungeon Master) controls the monsters and gives out the item and such. The GM (Game Master) makes sure the basic rules are followed, handles queries, makes sure that the game is balanced.

[IMG] Almost no one I know has ever heard of it and no one I know can play it. I try to explain but they don't get it, I try everything! All I can do is play online :(

Zaknafein, I feel your pain... I actually found the website of a gaming "club" of sorts working on the area where I live, but there is one tiny problem... You gotta be legal to join. I still have 15 months and 15 days to go....

Thus, it's CRPGs for me... but the only time I have tried PnP was an amazing experience, and I would definitely play if I had the change...
