Depending on where you live, the public transportation system might be enormous and expansive like New York City's, or it might have three buss lines total.

The poll is: Do you use public transportation? And if you do, then what type of vehicle(s) do you ride in?

Here in UT, we have a light rail train line that goes right through the heart of the city, and is extremely convenient to get to downtown Salt Lake City fast. On a weekly basis, I have to take the bus home after work; but before I moved closer to my work, I'd have to take 2 busses and the light rail train to get home. Both routes cost me a total of $1.40, no matter how many transfers I need.

    So, how about you? :rolling:

I don't use public transportation regularly, mostly because I am a student, but even then, I don't use buses. Every once in a while, when going to a RedSox game, i'll take the train in or out of Boston, but not very often.

All day and night bus lines, as well as tramways and the underground cost me about the equivalent of 10 or 11 USD per month (with a 50% student cut included). It's mostly buses for me.

I commute to and from work on the bus. It is much faster and cheaper than driving my car.

I don't use buses much simply because the routes are not convenient for me. A 15 minute trip would become two or more hours.

But, when I become a full time student, I'll start using the buses, since the routes are geared towards the colleges. I won't have to use gas or find a parking space that way.

For the most part, I like to travel by Shanks's Pony whenever possible. :p If needs be, then I go by bus or (very occasionally) tube. I'm not a big fan of cars, but they're necessary outside of the big cities because the public transport is dire.

I travel a lot by train, to visit my friends who all live in another city. I don't really mind though, sometimes you run into funny situations.

I used to travel like 120km daily by train but I have not been doing that since school ended. Anyway with the gas prices these days it is a lot cheaper to use public transportation whenver possible, it's a shame though that the trend seems to be for the local transporatation companies (which practically have monopolies and are serving under the local government) to rise their ticket prices nearly every year so that it keeps getting more and more expensive, which quite simply sucks.

I wish they had that kind of prices around here. A one way train trip from Hyvinkää to Helsinki (60km) costs for an adult (students and children get the same 50% cut) the same amount as your monthly ticket. :p

I use the bus 'cause it's FREE! :D MATC has a nice little contract with Madison Metro to provide free bus passes to its students, and I'm more than happy to take advantage. I could cut more than an hour of travel time out of each school day by driving, but I'd rather have the two hours on the bus with my laptop to do homework than 45 minutes of driving. Add to that the benefits of less air pollution and not having to buy the gas, and I'm downright ecstatic that the option is available.
    GO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!!! :thumb:

As a student, I relied heavily on the train and tram/light rail systems in Melbourne. They're definitely a better way to get around than driving.

Now that I'm working full-time, I walk to work most days, although I'll take the tram if I'm running late or it's raining. I'd never... eeeeeever drive to my current workplace. It'd take me longer than the 35-40 minutes that walking does.

I don't ride the buses around here. It's, in my estimation, about 3/4 of a mile to the closest busstop and down a steep hill. :shake: There's about 13 bus lines iirc.

Subway and bus, for going to school and home. Sometimes I use other means of public transportations when Im going to a basketball game, for example. My school gives me a free public transportation card, but it only works daytime, and not in the weekends. So, I pay about $60-70/term to extend the card so it works after daytime and in weekends.

In the subway and some other public transportation "transporters" (couldnt come up with a better word) you dont need a ticket/card, they never check...

I use public transportation when possible. Bus, subway, regular train.

Where I live the public transportation is limited. I travel up to New York City by bus or train and of course in Manhattan it is either shanks mare, bus or subway.

I use the bus and trains to and from work, when in London I either use my feet or taxi even before July I wouldn't use the tube/subways as I'm a claustrophobe.

I'm a student, so I use public transportation a lot, since it is free here if you are a student.
I really enjoy it too, especiially the subway is a great place to see crazy/interesting things. When I'm on my own in the subway I'm always looking around and silently enjoy all the people with their stupid complaints and conversations, sometimes it's just like a movie. Making eye contact with people and see how they react is always fun too :)

I commute by train, and as necessary take buses or subways within the city. In our rental home, there was a bus I could take to get to the train - handy for those times when my car was out of commission, but otherwise kid-pickup necessitates that little bit of driving. If I didn't have to get the boys, I'd ride my bike to the train station.

At one point I had a seven-mile commute, through Valley Forge National Park. It was great to start the day with a bike ride, even if the manager of the office building didn't make it easy for me to do so - I had to twist their arm to get a decent place to lock up my trusty steed.

Barcelona has an extensive subway net and lots of buses, I use subway and the fare is 1.30 Euros if is a single travel ticket with right to use a combination (subway to bus or viceversa) in the next 15 minutes, but there are integrated tickets with 10 travels or monthly tickets, the 10 travels tickets worth 6.30 Euros and the same rights as the single ticket.
Although is a controversy because the are almost very low control and lots of people just get in the subway bypassing/jumping controls machines and there's always foreign people (illegal inmigrants mostly from east) using the seats (while paying old or pregnant people is standing), spitting, eating seeds that are spitted on the floor, fighting eachother or disturbing others, etc..

In Cologne and surroundings the public transport network is tightly knit, and well organised. It even was able to cope with the eventually 900.000 pilgrims on world youth day who doubled colognes population for the time. Sure, every train was late, but still there was constant traffic in brief intervalls.

I use public transport intensively and extensively when I move through town, and it's generally timely, reliable and clean. I manage to avoid rush hours it seems :shake:

Only thing I hate about public transport is when it rains and the bus/tram/train is crowded. The air inside becomes humid from all the water brought in with wet clothes so that the air condition more or less fails. Yuck.
