This is the first film i have seen this year in the cinema. I thought it would be good that people put down their verdit in marks out of ten (hence the poll) and then write a short review or say what they like about it. This way there is no faffing about or going back on what you've said. :D :D

Let me just state my opinion. Tom Hardy (Shinzon)made this rather good movie into and epic piece of cinema. His acting ability and the tension he creates means that well used story lines about destorying the entire earth with a super weapon, a usually unforgivable sin, were forgotten in an instant.
I cannot say anymore about it other than Data's death was not as spectacular as i was origionally hoping, nevertheless somehow it was better. I will leave the rest for your opinions.

The movie lived up to the "odd # = bad, even # = good" tradition. While I guess I got myself a little too excited over the movie, it was good. The previews made it seem that it would be little more action packed than it was.

My favorite part? The fact that the big battle was not two dimensional. The top shields took a crapper, so the ship flipped! Sure, it's not spectacular, but it certainly helped me suspend my disbelief.

From what I read in the article on the movie in TV Guide, there is about 50 minutes of footage that hit the cutting room floor. Footage that, according to the stars, would have made the movie a little more 'fleshed out'. Oh well, hopefully Paramount will follow the recent trend and come out with a special edition DVD with the footage added in.

As a long time Star Trek fan I was very disapointed. Sure it kicked the crap out of Insurrection but that isn't saying much. From completely pointless action scenes (the rover battle; the Reman boarding party) to main characters being completely left out, to the Romulans making no sense (betraying Shinzon and sending cannon fodder with the intention of stoping him) to a lame WMD the list goes on and on. And the most frustrating thing is that they had gold with Picard and Shinzon yet cut great portions of their dialogue to fit in more action. That's right. Star Trek fans are pleased by mindless action. Apparantly thier new director forgot the audience he was directing for. Granted he was waaaay better than Jonathan Frakes...

I'm almost glad this is the last one. I don't think I would trust them to do another.

Can't wait for the Extended DVD however. :)

    Oh, yeah.

Odd = bad, Even = good? What the hell are you smoking? I'd like to know what made 1, 3, and 7 worse than 8 and 10. Hell the first one probably had the most intersting plot of them all.

[IMG] Omg they killed Data! I was so pissed. And I still think Riker was better as a bachelor. I found the plot weak, and i had to go back to see it as i feel asleep the first time. Major dissapointment to me as I just cant seem to get into Enterprise and it was the only REAL Startrek I had to look forward too.

I must smoke what most ST fans smoke.

1 was hacked together and expanded from the opening two-part pilot of the proposed Star Trek II television show. When Star Wars came out, Paramount decided to make a movie instead. And instead of coming up with a movie worthy script, they mined the show instead.

3 was just an excuse for to Leonard Nimoy back into the game. He didn't want to do the first one, but they talked him into it. They got him to do the second one but only with the promise they would kill him off. But two did so well, Nimoy changed his mind. So they made a movie to get him back.

7 was just plain contrived. Plus we didn't get what we were promised, namely the full cast of TOS with TNG. Kirk's death was a disappointment, Malcolm McDowell was wasted, and the Picard & Kirk take on the bad-guy routine was dull.

8 had Borg, action, great lines, and was everything a ST fan could want (except maybe you).

10 was good, but not the best. I was disappointed a little, but I felt I got my money's worth.

Now go take your 19 year old butt and smoke that. I merely answered the mans question by expressing my opinion. I didn't say that anyone who didn't agree with me was wrong. You like 1, 3 and 7 better than 8 and 10? More power to you.

    MrGrouch

By the way, I liked every single movie except nine.

    Wow.

    So they kill Data?

They'll probably resurrect him like they did Spock. Maybe not if the fans don't raise enough hell, though.

Anyways, I've lost track of the numbers after 6.

7 was Generations? 8 was First Contact? 9 was Insurrection? And 10 is Nemesis?

2 and 6 rocked. I'm not sure which one rocked more; the places where 2 was weak, 6 shored up, and vice versa.

And the series finale of Voyager was pretty good, as well. Other than that, the Trek hype has been lost on me.

Since when are 'borg, action, and great lines' everything a Star Trek fan would want? How about a good story, good direction, a plot that makes sense, and a villan that's not a moron? I'd like to see that for once.

As far as I am concerned, the movie had all I said and all that you said it didn't have.

I'm sorry Alex but if you think you haven't seen a Star trek movie without a moronic evil guy in it then you havent seen Nemesis. Shinzon is perfect, his acting is superb, his actions are beautiful and his dialouge is fantastic. Picard and him are reminiscent of Obi-wan and Count dooku. But of course he has to have weaknesess, Shinzon is supposed to be and obsessive revengful freak, and Tom hardy does it so well.

    Man.

For all that, I'm still going to have to go with Khan.

Jeepers, he was young back in 1968. But Ricardo Montablon (Mr. Roark; whatever; I'm too lazy to look it up; you know who I mean) is outstanding. And he's aged well. His acting was good in the series, and even better in the movie.

6 alone was good just for all the culture references. Good Lord, how many times has the phrase "Only Nixon could go to China" been used since then? Captain Von Trapp, Irenicus, and that really hott chick married to that nearly-gay Britt guy (Imon), all did excellent jobs.

To this day, 5 is the only one I will get up and not even bother watching. I only watch 3 for a few good parts; Teh Doc (Christopher Lloyd) is one CRAZY muther!

4 is the nominal tree-hugger one; it's not terrible, as long as you can deal with all the tree-huggers hammering spikes in trees so the loggers catch some good shrapnel value.

All the rest are pretty much mediocre. The first one is a good Hardcore Sci-fi flick; if you're introducing someone to Science Fiction, that's just moved from the Rainforests of South America to The States, then One is the way to go.

The Next Generation ones have a few good parts, but I still think Voyager was a little better. They need to do a Voyager movie; too bad they didn't make the series finale a movie, instead of a two-hour episode.

I did give Nemisis that. Tom Hardy was about its only redeeming factor. My moronic villian comment was aimed at First Contact primarily.
