The price of gas in the Houston area is roughly 2.60 per gallon, US dollars. I'm just a bit curious, as to what people are typically paying in their part of the world. And what you think gas prices will be for you by 2006. I have bad feeling it will be $4.00 by 2006 here in Houston.

Note: This poll is in US dollars.

it regularly lies between $5-6, but can sometimes go even higher.

So I own a bike, and need no car as it is :p
Plus, a drivers license costs roughly $1600 to boot..

I think you probably should have left your last category open ended. Our European members probably pay a lot more once they figure out the liter/gallon and Euro/Dollar math.

    I'm at $3-4 now.

DMC - Ok, since I can't go back and add a + to the 5.00 - 6.00 range, anyone could just post the difference on his/her post, figuring 5.00 - 6.00 "+" as the high end of the scale. I was also thinking about predictions on where those on SP thought gas prices might be heading. Up, I"m sure....

See? America is the greatest nation on earth.

Oh, right. Prices. Bouncing between $2 and $3 for now, usually closer to $2.

    Let's see...

    $1 AUS = $0.75 US
    1 gallon = 3.8 litres

Petrol is hovering at around $1.20 a litre, which translates to about $0.90 US per litre, so that's roughly $3.40 US a gallon.

Fortunately, I can walk everywhere I need to go, since I'm only a few kilometres from the city, and have public transport for everything else. I only need to drive to do fortnightly supermarket shopping and when I want to visit my parents in the outer suburbs.

    @ Chandos

It's the danish taxes and charges... They are so high (some of the highes iirc), that most students have a hard time affording to drive a car on regular basics. Also many parents pay for their kids drivers license, as they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it.

I heard that someone went to the gas station and asked for $5 worth of Gas. The attendant farted, took the money and left.

Actually it would work out close to $3 US per gallon here. It's around a buck Canadian for a litre as it stands, and was up about $1.35 when the Hurricanes were hitting...

We use liters in Poland and we pay 3,30 PLN for it. 1EUR is about 3,80 PLN and 1USD is about 3,5PLN. So our gas is very expensive (half of the price is tax)

Damn right LeFleur! The Dutch are complainers!!! Take it from a Belgian...! hehe...

But it's about prices, right? Well, if NonSequitur is right about the gallon/liter math, then in Belgium we pay about 6.5 $ per gallon...

Yep, life in Europe is expensive! On the other hand, we do have the hottest babes and the best food, so... It ain't all that bad... :D

At an exchange rate of $1.75 USD to the £, petrol is around the $6.30 a US gallon mark.

    An if anyone cares...

The Imperial pint is defined in terms of the gallon, which was originally defined as the volume of eight pounds of wheat. Other versions of the gallon were defined for different commodities, and there were equally many versions of the pint.

America adopted the British wine gallon (defined in 1707 as 231 cubic inches) as its basic liquid measure, from which the US wet pint is derived, and the British corn gallon (1/8 of a standard "Winchester" bushel of corn, or 268.8 cubic inches) as its dry measure, from which the US dry pint is derived.

In 1824 the British parliament replaced all its variant gallons with a new "imperial" gallon based on ten pounds of distilled water at 62 °F (277.42 cubic inches), from which the UK pint is derived.

Holland is in the 6+ category. I don't know the exact gas prices, but they should be close to 1.42 euro per liter (they have actually gone down in the last month or so).
With the current exchange rates, a litre would be $1.70, which makes a gallon of gas around $6.59 if my calculations are correct.

As for your second question; the gas prices probably will go up again soon, so it might be somewhere close to $7 per gallon at the end of the year. Let's hope for the best after that :)

I don't know about the rest of the country, but gas prices in the mid-atlantic region have recently gone down considerably. In the last few weeks, we've gone from around $3.00 per gallon, and today on the way to work, it was down to $2.53 per gallon. Granted, a year ago, there would have been much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth about such prices, but compared to what they've been since Katrina, that actually looks pretty low.

We are currently paying in the $3-$3.25 range per gallon. It has come back down after peaking somewhere around $4.50/gallon a month or so ago.
