    -Just my luck-

I glance at the weather report on the MSN homepage and notice that there aren't any little rain symbols. So I figure I'd give my car a bath. $5 at the 'U-Wash It' and I'm done. The car looks great for the rest of the day.

The next day the car still looks good as I drive around town. And then it happens. Off in the distance, I hear thunder. Dark clouds gather as I flip the radio on to hear the weather report. It turns out that the storm that was supposed to miss the area is now heading straight for it.

Panicking, I decide to go back home...hoping that the covered parking at my apartment will be enough to keep my car dry. I'm 2 miles away from home when the first rain drop hits my windshield. I decide to go a little faster. I turn off the main highway, and get stopped at the red light soon after. I'm less than a mile away now.

Up ahead there is some road construction, where the pavement becomes a dirt road for about 20 feet. If I go slow enough over it, there should be much dirt or dust that gets kicked up. The light turns green, and I drive towards the dirt. From the right a old truck with some teenagers pulls in front of me. I slow to 20 mi/hr as I come to the dirt. The truck in front of me slows too, but they hit the gas right as they enter the dirt. Wheels spinning, they kick up a cloud of dirt and dust. No way of avoiding it, and drive right through the cloud, my horn honking, and my middle finger out the window.

By now, it was sprinkling very lightly. Ever drop of rain the hit my car was infused with dirt. I was only a few hundred feet from my parking stall when the rain really started to pick up. I pull in, and park it. I step out and see what a mess my car now is.

    ---------------

Has this ever happened to you? You spend anywhere from $3 to $20 for a car wash or detailing and soon after, the weather changes, ruining your wash job? It seems like it happens to me every single time I wash my car. :bang:

    How about you? :rolling:

Yes - except that I would never actually pay money for a car wash. I'm far too cheap for that.

Ditto HB - except in the winter (I pay $2 - $1 each for wash and rinse). Otherwise, it's a bucket o'soapy water in the driveway.

We wait for rain and park the car outside for a free carwash sometimes.

Hmmm, your car must be pretty dirty if it ends up cleaner after a shower of rain, instead of dirtier!

$20 for a full detail?! Man, I'm moving to Utah...

When I lived in Oregon the local car wash gave out rain guarantee certificates - if it rained within 5 days of your wash, you could come back for a freebie (exterior only, no wax). The problem was that it was just as likely to rain in the next 5 days as well, and the next, and the next...

It only happens to me when I spring for the full cleaning. Other then that, the weather leaves me alone.

And I too have been in the situation where the rain is a free car wash.

It's the age-old question... whether to wash the car now, when it's dirty, or to wait for it to become really dirty, and let the rain wash it for you. Decisions, decisions...

Ha! Just washed and waxed my car last Sunday and it hasn't been rained on yet... Still all shiny smooth :)

Which is really not such an odd occurrence for a So Cal summer ;)

Seems to be an offshoot of Murphy's Law. It's happened to me several times. Fortunately it costs me between $1 and $2.50 only.

Hey, why else did God make rain, if not to wash people's cars for free?

It's not like farmers need it or anything. ;)

True, but where I live there is constantly road construction, blooming Cottonwood Trees, and wide open fields with overgrown weeds...so there is a high level of dust, dirt, cotton, and pollen in our air.
And in some parts of the world, that rain is acidic, and will ruin a car's paint job. :rolling:

I thought rain was just dirty water anyway? So it wouldn't clean your car, it would dirty it more wouldn't it? :)
