Hi. I'm new to POR but I found a way to increase the resolution. I don't communicate so pretty good but I'll try to explain.
If us use D3dwindower-English http://www.filefront.com/13838785/D3DWindower-English/ ,follow the english readme, through step 2. Go the "setting" menu, common menu, and add your wanted height and width(must be the same ratio as 800x600). None of the remaining buttons are selected. Select the "Window Mode" tab and only have a check mark in "DirectX1-7" and "DDraw Colour Convert" boxes. The "Foreground Control" and "Direct Input" tabs should be blank. Continue with the readme.
Hope this works for you. This is a fussy program, my POR crashes often and this is one of the few titles I've gotten to work. By the way I have n ATI 9700 pro.
