Like the topic says, post it with the 5 substitutes if you want. Also, it is now just active players, so Pelé, Platini and all the other real players are allowed.

    Goalie:
    Dino Zoff, Italy

    Defenders:
    Franz Beckenbauer, Germany
    Georghe Hagi, Italy
    Marco Evangelista Cafú, Brazil
    Paolo Maldini, Italy(Captain)

    Midfielders:
    Michael Platini, France
    Diego Maradona, Argentina
    Brian Laudrup, Denmark
    Fabio Capello, Italy

    Attackers:
    Roberto Baggio, Italy
    Pelé, Brazil

    Substitutes:
    Goalkeeping:
    Tomas Ravelli, Sweden

    Defence:
Franco Baresi, Italy(Captain if Maldini goes off)

    Midfield:
    Johann Cruyff, Netherlands

    Attack:
    Paolo Rossi, Italy
    Leonidas da Silva, Brazil

Using an offensive 4-4-2 formation, with Beckenbauer being a libero and Maldini going offensive when nececcary. Baresi will be switched in whenever defensive playing is required instead of offensive power.

The midfield will be playing in the box formation with Maradona and Platini as offensive midfielders. Platini will be the offensive playmaker while Capello will keep the defence ready for any counter-attacks. If more goals are needed Capello will be replaced by Cruyff.

The attack is the strongest point in the squad, because those two are the greatest players of all times. Roberto have a technique unrivaled and is unpredictable as few while Pelé is both technical and a strong attacker over all. His headers and play in the small penalty area is unmet by anyone in the history and Baggio's shot are like his technique, unpreadictable. His corners are also legendary and will score many a goal when Pelé will go into headers, as said above. Whenever the attackers are off form or tired they will be replaced. Leonidas can also be an extra offensive midfielder.
    ----------Zoff-----------

    -------Beckenbauer-------
    --Maldini---Cafú---Hagi--

    ---Capello-----Laudrup---
    -Maradona--------Platini-

    ----Baggio-------Pelé----

    Free kicks: Platini
    Corners: Baggio
    Penalties: Laudrup
    5 last penalties after overtime:
    1. Maradona
    2. Maldini
    3. Baggio
    4. Platini
    5. Laudrup

No, IMHO, England are like Sweden: No really great inviduals, they rely on the team. George Best is surpassed by a lot inviduals but in a all-around team, he would definatly be in.

    Post your own team, please.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't George Best play for Northern Ireland, not England?

Ah. Dumb me, but since they have pretty much the same playing style, just replace
"England" with "Nothern Ireland" in my above comment.

Well Zoff was a very good goalkeeper but in my opinion there are many more who are/were far better than him like Kahn, Banks, Schmeichel, Pfaff, Dasaev etc.

I think that you made a mistake here. Hagi was Romanian and midfielder.

What about Marco Van Basten and Gerdt Muller? I will never forget the goal that Van Basten scored against Soviet Union in the 1988 EC final and Muller, even if he wasn't the best player from a technical point of view, had the unique ability to be in the right place in the right time.

Sorry, the Italy part from Hagi was because that spot was formerly held by an Italian player.

Also, Hagi was a good midfielder but it was when he played as a defender he played at his best IMHO.

[IMG] When did Hagi play as a defender? IIRC he was playing as a midfielder even in the last days of his career in Galata Serai.

Okay, not always a defender, but as a defensive midfielder. However, when he played as that, he played so defensive that he often were further back than the defence.

Italy-Romania, the first part of the game before the second Italian goal was scored. He then played as the ultra-defensive midfielder.

    @ Caleb
First off, was it necessary to be so rude? I don't recall Sir Bel ever calling something you were into stupid.

Second, I don't know where you get this silly notion that American football encourages violence and European soccer (football) doesn't, especially when the two are compared. So we put on pads and hit each other; whoopdee-doo. The violence is well within the rules and injuries are very rare. Also, you don't see many "football hooligans" here in the states. Hooliganism doesn't exactly encourage the planting of flowers and the saving of kittens. The culture surrounding European soccer is far more violent than all of our sports combined. At least our sports don't encourage riots. Gimme a break.

Okay, maybe I was a bit rude, but he knew what the topic was about and really had no reason to post that.

However, judging football by it's supporters are like judging christianity for the crusades, insane.

And American football may not have the violent supporters, but take a look: which sport have running into the enemy at full speed to knock him over as one of the only defence methods? American Football.

[IMG] It was about football, you didn't say which kind...So I took the time out of my busy schedule to enlighten the European sect of SP to see the names of some of the football greats in the USA.

Plus, I haven't heard of any American football fans dying because of riot after the game. So let's not go down the violence trail...

Let's see...Hockey and Rugby, just off the top of my head. But so what? Does it cease to be exciting or require skill because of it? No. Similar types of contact are an integral part of many sports. I hope you aren't trying to argue the absurd idea that Soccer (football...whatever) is somehow the more sophisticated, non-violent sport. I have several friends with missing teeth, broken ankles and scars that mysteriously resemble cleat marks who would beg to differ.

    @Bel-
    You see my above comment?

Also, I would like this thread to stay on topic, not to be a discussion on Football vs. American Football. If you would like to have such a discussion, start a new topic please.
