    Do you read posts that are longer than say, 15 lines? :confused:

    Personally I get bored after about that many, which is why I am seldom seen in the AoDA! :D
    I also tend to post quite short posts myself, maybe it's the subconscious knowledge that people get bored with long posts?

    You get it right. It's scientifically proved that they won't bother. A post longer than 15 lines won't be read often. In AoDA it's nothing unusual to see a page or half again a page of unparagraphed text. Such a long musing I only read when it's in proper English, logically tight and at least to some degree interesting. Otherwise only if I have to read it all for the better flaming ;)

    Of course I've spawned a lot of post length horrors myself, but I at least I paragraph them and keep them more or less coherent.

    [IMG] I will read a long post if the beginning is interesting enough. Hoever if I look at a post with several long posts in a row I am slightly put off and will read it when I have more time.

    When the matter is something that *really* interests me. Most often not, and perhaps that is the reason why my own posts tend to be short. Besides that, my writing style has always been "curt."

    The shorter, the better. But a punchline and some jokes in between, can make a lengthy post more endurable. I am a lengthy-post-sinner. But it doesn't matter anyway. I don't even manage to keep short posts coherent.

    It depends if the topic is about Lord of the Rings or not.

    Despite the length of Tolkiens paragraphs i'm glued to the book :p

    Damn... :o

    This is making me all self conscious and wondering if all of MY posts are too long...

    Yikes. Oh well, practicing a bit of minimalism never hurt anyone. :heh:

    Yep, I usually lose interest in long posts. Dangerous Angles is probably the worst for these; its not that the issues aren't important or that I don't have an opinion, but I generally don't have the time to read all the posts and then formulate a coherent and logical reply.

    Hmm, this reminds me of the time when I was just a lad, walking in the forest with my grandfather. Gramps was telling me about his military days and...
    (Edit: 48 lines deleted)
    ... finally, Gramps said "and that's why you never want to put gunpowder in a condom".

    ...What were we talking about again?

    Depends, I read long roleplaying posts, but not many long posts about randon crap, or intelligent well reasoned debate.

    I thought posts were part of a fence?...

    Oops! those posts. It's true, make them fit and stay on topic and not get too incoherent, which is something that I normally try to do so that others can be sure to understand my point without getting led up the garden path into a labyrinth of meaningless scribblings and graffiti...

    If the topics of any interest to me I can read the long posts that Laches and the likes post. Sometimes I post long posts my self. What annoys me worse than long posts is when I post somewhere and then come back the next day and another 2 pages have been fulled with posts. To long to read... See I'm posting an overly long post again.

    I don't mind reading the occasional essay in the Alley, but I hate the long quotes, or the pointless diatrabes -- especially from the people with no concept of paragraphing. I'll admit to having posted some whopping big essays in times past, but I feel they flowed well and I try to paragraph.

    @Shell
    Do you want to actually learn something or just kill time? I don't like people, who never bothers with long posts. Sorry if that means you. Some of us are here to actually try and understand and learn something from others and share ideas. I am sorry if that is an inconvinience to you. Which it must be since you post a thread about it. :rolleyes:

    @LKD
    I don't know how much you've been involved in forum debates in your life. But without quoting whole paragraphs, *every* serious discussion suffers the risk of moving into nitpicking on out of context sentences, loosing the aim. Especially if more than two people are involved.

    @Nobleman No it doesn't bother me at all :) I was just interested to know if anyone else was the same as me. :rolleyes:

    Another reason for short posts is that I only get about half an hour on the computer per day :aww:

    You wouldn't believe how tempted I was to reply with an incredibly massive post, but then I realized that I'd have to come up with an even more incredibly massive amount of stuff to say about posts.

    Plus, Tal would kill me.

    I usually skip the long ones, but I always worry that when I skip them, I miss something that I was going to say, so I'm afraid that if I reply, I'll look like an over-eager newbie who doesn't read the posts. That's one of the reasons I don't post an awful lot in the Alley. Well, that and the fact that I usually have a much more light-hearted view of the world than is needed to post in the Alley. Those things always strike me as serious and sometimes depressing.

    I just don't fit that mold.

    About quotes: If you are not English-speaker and your English skills aren't too good. Why torture others with your shortcomings, when quotes are able to get your point through, in a way it is understood and one self couldn't (couldn't :( ) phrase it better.

    It depends on the topictitle. If it intrigues me, i'll read everything that pops up. If the topictitle looks like it's not for me, i mostly still read it, but won't reply.
