    Went to see this yesterday, and it was very enjoyable - classical Disney of the 80s. Disney touted this as a return to tradition, using Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast etc prominently in their advertising, but that's not really the sort of movie this is - this movie has much more in common with older movies like Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmations. The story isn't strong or dark (and if you think Disney can't be dark, well, watch Hunchback of Notre Dame again); the songs aren't united like in Beauty and the Beast... but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

    More specifically: the songs are quite nice; very jazzy. Story was thin, as I said, but nice and twisty enough. The bad guy, Dr. Facilier, was (in Disney tradition) downright awesome - kind of like a modern day Jafar who dabbles in voodoo. I was very happy to see that he did, indeed, get a bad guy song, but it wasn't as impressive as it could have/should have been. He was also voiced by Keith David, who did Vhailor in PS:T (and the differences couldn't be greater).

    So, overall, good traditional Disney stuff. Bring your kids or just go see it yourself.

    It was alright. I'm glad to see that Disney are leaning this way again, but there's a massive gap between it and movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Swan Princess. It wasn't bad - it was even good - but it left no impression on me.

    The songs were fairly unexciting, I thought, and they didn't have nearly the prominence that they did in the classics.

    Didn't think much of the villain. Absolutely depthless - a tiny bit of character development would have gone a long way (just showing how he got into that much debt with the spirits would have been nice). He was a lot like Jafar though - a less grand and more petty Jafar.

    If you're yearning for old-style Disney, go for it - it might encourage them to make more and better films in the same style, and it's quite nice movie.
