[IMG] Well, you asked for it and here it is. I tested it and it seems to work fine. Do let me know what you think or if you experience any problems with it. It's easy enough to use that no one should have any problems with it.

[IMG] Ok, first quirk's showed up. :grr:

Those members who have changed their usernames will see their old usernames which were thus far only like for example:

    Nobleman
    unregistered

now turn into something else. That "unregistered" will morph into the details of the last person to post in the topic. There's no user record corruption or anything, just a cosmetic glitch if you will. But I suppose since username changes are relatively rare this shouldn't be too distracting.

In any case, fixing it would be near impossible. There are too many instances of what could be causing this so I'm not even going to speculate. It works normally with everything but changed usernames, so I suppose I could turn off username changing and this wouldn't happen any more...

What do you think? Should username changing be disabled so that this does not happen any more, or should it be left as it is? Unless someone changes their username after a great deal of posting their old messed up username wouldn't show anyway, so it shouldn't be too distracting since we get most people to change inappropriate usernames right at the beginning.

Only let people change their username if it's necesary, no username changes for the hell of it.

If you ask me - the nickchange can be removed. I don't plan to change mine.

And two or three posts less because of changed nick means nothing when I think on it. Remember dozens of lost posts when old server broke?

My vote is on disable. But after Nobleman restores his non-drunk variation. ;)

I don't think it matters that much, but disabling it would prevent drunken accidents like Nobleman's... ;)

[IMG] Nothing is lost Extremist... As I said, only the unregistered text gets replaced by the post count and avatar of the last poster. And username changing has been possible once per year only anyway. I suppose I could disable it generally and only leave it there for those people we especially tell they need to change it. (And mail them the link.)

[IMG] Actually, heh, I found out what was causing the annoying switch in user status. Not part of the private messaging hack at all, but something I installed by the way some time ago and didn't notice its effect till now.

Fortunately it's easily replacable, and I only need the hack's functionality once in a while, so it'll only be in use for about half an hour each month, and then replaced with the original again.

In short, it's back to normal now. As soon as those threads where this quirk appeared are modified in any way, the status "unregistered" will show up again correctly.

Btw, if any of you want to test it out but don't have anyone to send anything to, you can send it to me. Just click on the pm button in my post header.

Nice job Tal. I just got done looking at my inbox(no messsages:() and I was surprised at how easily it is to use.

You'r probley going to have to write something about it in the FAQ though. "No mass e-mails for example."

I'm sure that it's going to be something a lot of people start to use soon.

    Great job.

As a suggestion, maybe a link to your inbox in the bar at the top? Or would that make it too cluttered? *shrug*

[IMG] DragonRider SkyWard, you're sending messages, not mails. If you find anyone sending you any spam messages or anything of the like, forward the message to me or BTA and the culprit will be banned.

Wildfire... It's pretty cluttered as it is. And you can always bookmark the page if scrolling down the page it too much of an effort. I don't know how you manage to see the forums though, unless you scroll down. ;)
