When I put in disk one, it doesn't ask for an install, but allows me immediately to press play. Of course this does nothing, because the game isn't installed.

I checked the Software section of my windows configuration screen, and it says BG2 is still installed. When I order it uninstalled, it seems to go through the process, but BG2 is still visible in the list.

Help? I really want to play again :)

This has happened quite a few times to me as well. WHat has happened is you have uninstalled BG2 but it hasnt cleaned the BG2 entries in your windos registry. So it tries to run the game but has no files to run on. So all you have to do is find the registry and edit out the BG2 entries.

I'm no wizkid, so I have no clue where to find this 'registry'. :) Any tips?

The setup has no trouble in popping up, it does that when I load the cd into my computer. It simply doesn't offer the install or uninstall option, just the play option.

no, thats the autorun program that pops up not the setup file itself ;)

Go to: my computer then right click on your cd-rom and choose "open"

you should now see the contents of bg2 cd1

click on the setup file (setup.exe) and the installation should run.

Edit the system registry using the regedit utility. Remove the following keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\":
    BG2Main.exe
    bg2ep202.exe

    Completely edited post :xx:

Deathwisper, I tried that. It does give me the installshield wizard, but once it's loaded for a bit, it gives me the following message: Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of it's components? I can then either press okay or cancel. No matter which I chose, the install ends there.

Xei Win Toh, I was able to delete BG2main.exe from the registry, but bg2ep202.exe was not in the folder you described. Even with nuking BG2main.exe, I cannot install properly.

It seems to me that I had a similar problem. IIRC, all I did was delete the entire Black Isle directory after I unistalled BG2, and the re-installation went OK.

    Definitely a registry problem.

If you've got Norton, running Disk Doctor will fix the problem.
