    That'd be a start, yes. Also, which version of the game you have, do you have the patch installed, which OS, etc.

    Also, where are you when this happens (which area are you in, and which area(s) are you trying to go to)?

    Some tips that might help.

    Did the game come on two or four CDs? If you have the 4-CD version, you should install the version 1.1 patch (available here). If you have the 2-CD version, it is already patched and you should NOT install the patch again (it will corrupt your installation).

    Try emptying the Cache folder under your Torment install folder (for example C:bad:Program Files\Torment\Cache if you installed Torment to C:bad:Program Files\Torment).

    Reading from the CD sometimes causes trouble. You can avoid this by doing a full install:

    - Copy the contents of CDs 2, 3 and 4 (CD 2 if you have the 2-CD version) to a folder on your hard disk, for example C:bad:Torment\CDs. Some of the files exist on several of the CDs. Just accept to overwrite all when you're prompted.
    - Find the Torment.ini file in your Torment install folder and open it in a text editor, for example Notepad. (I suggest you create a backup first, in case you make a mistake.)
    - Edit the lines CD2, CD3 and CD4 to point to the folder on your hard disk:
    -- CD2:=C:bad:Torment\CDs
    -- CD3:=C:bad:Torment\CDs
    -- CD4:=C:bad:Torment\CDs

    If none of this helps, try going back to an earlier save game.
