[IMG] I started two games with Avengers, in one,
I got 50 HP, another time I got 70 HP with
    the same stats?

Also, in these two games, Minsc started with
different HP, once he started at over 100.

Also, one time I picked up Anomen, and he was already level 11. Does it depend on what level I am when I meet him? Another time he was just 7. Hmm...

Yes it depends on what level you meet him and as for the hp thing....theres a button in options i beleive that gives you max hp points per level turn that on and you get....well max hp per level so when your chacter is created he gets.....yes!max hp for his lvl!

The amount of HP you begin with depends on your Hit Dice (HD) If you don't understand what HD is, well, basically it's a dice that determines how many HP you have for each level. Here are the HDs for each class:

    Fighter/Paladin/Ranger: d10+ CON modifier
    Cleric/Druid/Monk: d8+ CON modifier
    Thief/Bard: d6+ CON modifier
    Mage/Sorcerer: d4+ CON modifier
    Barbarian: d12+ CON modifier

At a certain level, you stop getting HD, but a fixed number of HP each level:

Fighter/Barbarian/Paladin/Ranger: +3 HP each level beginning at level 10.
Cleric/Druid/Monk: +2 HP each level beginning at level 10.
Thief/Bard: +2 HP each level beginning at level 11.
Sorcerer/Mage: +1 HP each level beginning at level 11.

So what happens, is that when your character is created, in BG2 at level 7 say, the HD are rolled for 7 times, right? I understand about levelling up, and hit points (and HD), but just wondered how starting out could differ.

Looks like when starting out at a level above 1, the HD are rolled for each level, and your starting HP's are set that way. Correct?

Yes, correct. But I'm not sure about the first HD rolled when you start out at level 1; it is either random or just set at the highest number possible.

BTW, what does "Flicka" mean? Nice avatar.

It's from a movie: "My Friend Flicka". I'm an old guy (started on the ARPANET in 1977), so my memories may be a bit longer than the average monster.

I wanted to be a Black Bear with the name "Smokey", but, no ...

People, if you have a personal question for bp, there's an email icon above every one of his posts that you can use. There is no need to pollute the topic with this stuff.

I know this is not on topic but as it came up I thought I'd share my knowledge to those who didn't know. I just couldn't resist it.
'Flicka' is actually the swedish word for 'girl'. Cute huh! :)
Sorry for the totally unnecessary post! Maybe I'm just trying to squirm out of doing my homework.
