I was just wondering if the various quest items (like the piece of red cloth, for example) and notes are of any use once you've completed the quest or read the note.

After you finish the quest with the red cloth it is useless, just like a lot of other items. Letters are useless to, I usualy but them in a box somewhere, just in case I need them later.

    Alright, thanks :)

[Edit]: Oh yeah, I forgot to ask about another item. I found some wooden stakes in the tombs under the Graveyard but I didn't go all the way down (didn't want to do the quest for Keldorn just yet)

What do I need those for ? Can I use them on vampires ? Are they a quest item ?

You'll need those to kill a vampire from it's coffin. And as far as I remember it wan't Keldorn's quest that took place in the tombs.
So.. if you are to fight vampires at some point you need ~4 stakes or something like that.

Do a search for "The Man In Red" on these boards and you should find out all you need to know about that quest.

Also with the stakes once you've killed vampires in there tomb's and Bohdi's run away you can dump any stakes you have left. You'll get more from Ethan later on in the game.

[IMG] Bring one wooden stake with you when you leave for SPellhold...

Wooden Stakes are for sale at several places, check in churches for example.

Hey earl, you don't need to take that 'one wooden stake with you to spellhold'

If you have killed the goblin's around that big purple rock there, and search them (who still searches goblin's nowadays? ) ;) ,you'll find the stake you need there.
