I'd like to import a character from BG1, but I'd also like to add a new NPC of my own, a Monk. I've never tried this class out, and I think he would be a good fit for my party.

Incidentally, if this is not possible, are there any good 3rd party Monk NPCs that I could add myself?

    TIA

There is a mod character called Yikari, who can be found here:

    PPG Mod List

And another called Kiara and Zaiya (Kiara is the monk) here:

    Kiara and Zaiya

I've never tried either so I don't know what they are like. There is also one called Aklon at Gibberlings 3, but he is still in development.

If you move your save from single player to multiplayer when you have imported, you can then add a multi-player created character. Move the new save back to single player and you should have a self-created NPC. Monks rock rather well.

Monks rock really weell, take it from me. Kicked those three elder orbs in Hell trial all by myself with monk, and I lost five hp :) Killed Firkraag in three strikes, and that black dragon in elven city in one strike.

I would suggest that you create a monk yourself, it will be more powerful than any NPC. Put 18 in DEX and CON, maybe STR(but that is not to be worried about, you have many items that increase strengt well beyond 18), and divide the rest of points equally beetwen INT, WIS and CHA, and you have yourself a killing machine.

You only need 16 in Constitution as the monk uses the cleric HP on level up and does not benefit from Constitutions higher than 16. Stick it in Strength so that if another character really needs a Girdle of _____ Strength, then your monk isn't too badly off. Don't forget to pick up the Gauntlets of Crushing from the Underwater City.

True, but 18 CON gives you highter starting hp.

But you can survive with 16 CON just as well, I'll admit that much. Maybe put 11 in INT, so you can survive at least few hits from mind flayers. I had three points in INT when I first played with monk, and those buggars gave me some hard time :p

If you decide to play evil monk you can get +2 to your STR and CON in hell trials, so mybe putting 18 in STR isn't that bad idea. With 20 STR you almost don't need any item that increases strenght.

It shouldn't give any additional effect. If it does, then you are experiencing a bug- no classes other than those in the Warrior sub-section recieve any benefit from > 16 Con.

I know I can create a more powerful character myself... that's not the point. I have a protagonist that I want to use.

Thanks for answering my questions everybody.
