Hey all, I have a question I want to ask about PCs joining my party. Right now I have me and Imoen, and I plan on taking Minsc and Yeslick.

I remember the second time I played this game, I got Minsc to join when I was around lvl 5 and he was around lvl5-6 as well. I was wondering how your party's experience affects the experience of unjoined PCs. If it affects it seriously, I might get Minsc to join later on - but I'm sure there's a limit to how strong an unjoined PC can be. Can anyone here clear up this question for me?

    Thanks in advance.

In my experience, sometimes, NPCs are about your level (Shar-Teel), but sometimes they stick at level 1 (often, Dynaheir), even if I hadn't entered the area before. I don't know why.

They should join at about the same level of the rest of your party. I believe it is determined by the level of the person who askes the npc to join. So always ask with the person who has the highest level.

They are based on your level generally. They do all have a minimum starting level, which they won't go below. Eg. Yeslick might be a F2/C3, but more than likely will be a F4/C5. These starting levels are predetermined and I think the game tries to find the best one to match your level. Once you've talked to a character, even if you don't go back for them until later, they will still be the level they were when you first spoke to them.

It is generally thought that it is much better to get a character at as low a level as possible so you can build them into the character that you want them to be (especially thieves). I would agree with this, except Minsc - try to get him at L4 so he has better proficiencies.

Try using Infinity Explorer, to give you an idea what level each of the characters starts at.
