If I use ShadowKeeper to change a character in a manner that is clearly contrary to BG2 rules, such as making an evil paladin or a gnomish druid, will the game accept this character or will there be problems? What if I make a dual or multiclass character that the game wouldn't normally allow, like a barbarian/ranger or bard/cleric?

It should be accepted for the most part. You may be ineligible for some quests or items that a normal race/alignment that the class would normally be able to use but other than that I've never run into any difficulties doing so(ran through with an evil pally...too bad there aren't anti-paladins)

In Shadowkeeper all classes (including multiclasses) are chosen from a drop down list. There is not barbarian/ranger or bard/cleric options in the list and as such it cannot be done in SK. What you can do is assign a kit to one of the multiclass classes
    ie you can make a fighter/mage a kensai/mage or a fighter/conjurer, but not both (a kensai/conjurer).

Evil Pally or Gnomish druid, as iLLusioN' said, will work fine.

You can change colors of your character via SK too. Some really weird colors will cause the saved game to crash and be unplayable. (you can still edit it to change the color to a normal one) Just so you know.

I tried making a ranger/thief -- BG2 clearly did not like that (my computer froze at level up).

However, Barbarian is treated like a kit of fighter by the game and can be used if you SK it in (Jaheira as a barbarian/druid would be fun). As mentioned previously, you can SK in one kit. So a half-orc fighter/assassin is possible (and quite fun), as is a beastmaster/cleric, or the extremely powerful fighter/shapeshifter (seems to fit Jaheira more...she can be a bit of a beast).

Beastmaster/cleric? Wow, talk about useless, you might as well play a single class cleric then :D

I think you can even add the Wild Mage kit to Bards, giving them the wild magic ability.
