    1) The various chess pieces you find, like the White Bishop and the Black Knight...are they one-time use items, or are they once-per-day items? Their descriptions don't specify either.

    2) Are all bard instruments rechargable use items? Once again, they don't say - and I get worried about items that boast 7 or 8 uses in my quick item slot. I tend to be a "save it for a rainy day" player when it comes to items with charges. So much so that I really never end up using them until the power they yield ends up being obsolete. But anyway...

I never used them. Like you I was always saving them for the rainy day, except it never rained THAT much. Still, if they are anything like the items in BG2, e.g spider figurine, I imagine they are once per day items.

I seem to remember the chess piece being a single use item.

As far as using up these items is concerned, I wonder if the merchants in the Dale have the skill as those of BG so they can recharge items n put em up for sale.

DR, it nevers rains in the Dale. So use up those pieces.

Yeah, they are single use items. I squandered the priest during my battle against the frost salamander king, and then the bishop healed me a bit and got the hell out of there. I think it's more worthwhile to sell them, maybe get a few nice items from Conlan...

Read the item description: They are one-use items, but the bishop and the knight are extremely useful in the final battle, because the bishop healed without having to be told to and the knight wasn't bad at fighting.I used them to protect the mages.
