A mate and myself have been playing multi-player BG2, controlling 3-chars each and its been good fun ... but people seem to join our game that we dont know

we are connecting over broadband, so once they have the ip address they can connect - but how do they get it?

could it be something my mate has, like gamespy? or are there programs that just ping ip addresses looking for bg2 games to join?

any help would be appreciated ... i wouldnt mind people joining ... but i at least want to know how they got the ip address

GameSpy, most likely... if you want to play privately, one should just make the game and the other connect to his IP... no involving GameSpy.

This is what we do (dont think i explained myself clearly, so apologies for that), which is why I don't understand why people are joining ... my mate reckons he had un-installed gamespy before we even started playing, so I am a bit baffled by it.

What we do now is put a password on the game, which stops people joining but doesnt help explain it.

Ah, in that case I have no idea... maybe BG reports every online game to GameSpy or something like that. But yea, password protecting will do the trick.

Hmm, I had that happen to me once when I started a new game in multiplayer; but I also noticed something; my MSN messenger has an opotion to start a BG2 game; coulfd this possibly have something to do with it, if MSN is running while gaming?

MSN is running, but we could never get it to work through MSN, so have to connect with the ip address manually ... I dont think MSN give the option to find online games.

We have password protected the game, so it is stops the problem of people joining at least.

No matter how you are playing BG online, I am pretty sure that every game is automatically shown on Gamespy. Can sometimes be really kind of annoying.
