    Some quastions about rangers.

    1Are they too any use?
    2Should they be multi-classed?
3What race should they be?

Only ranger I would play is an Elven Ranger with high Dex, wearing light armor when dual-wielding swords/scimitars. Use your bow. Get some fighter levels, or maybe some thieving (backstabbing seems to be nice as a ranger/rogue)

I don't have much experience with the ranger in IWD2 though.

I agree. Rangers don't seem too popular although I chose one for two weapon fighting and ambidexterity. I realized later though that I could have used a different class and just added one ranger level for those feats. Also to make full use of these feats you have to be using light armor. Not good for the frontline, light armor and no shield. You're better off shooting a bow from the back. Elves or half-elves would make the best rangers.

I had an evenly split Wild Elf Ranger/Fighter and he was excellent. High DEX, specialised with bows and small blades, used Weapon Finesse and feats like Rapid Shot, Improved Critical, Dirty Fighting.. Excellent character.
The only reason to go with a single-classed Ranger would be for personal preference. I think there's more to gain with Rangers and multi-classing. Ranger/Rogues, Ranger/Barbarians, Ranger/Druids, Ranger/Fighters.. All good multi-classes that gain the character more than it would by sticking to the Ranger class alone.

[IMG] I like Rangers - but I like all classes and can use them all reasonably well.

    1) Wilderness lore is good, they can use bows well and can dual wield and sneak.
    2) I never multi-class, wouldn't know
    3) I find any race is good.

I had an awesome Drow ranger/sorcerer combo - about three or four levels of ranger and then the rest sorcerer - with a high dex and char with decent stats for the rest, he was a wicked good combo.
