Rapid Shot: Will it ever help with a Crossbow?

    AFAIK no.
    I've experienced that you get the -2 AB if you enable rapid shot with crossbows which shouldn't be the case.
    To be sure you could just create 2 identical characters after your race and have them shoot at each other with crossbows, one with rapid shot enabled and one without.

    For high level characters even the best HoF crossbow can't compete with the composite bows +5 you can buy in the last chapter in normal mode.
    Other ranged weapons are even better since they grant a strength bonus.

    kmonster, I assume you mean a comp longbow +5 with Rapid shot, right?

    Hmm, what about the crossbow that gives extra attacks? Does anyone remember if rapid shot works with that?

    In general, Rapid Shot doesn't work with Crossbows.

    However, there are exceptions. The first I know of is the one Illium (Village of Andora's boss at Chapter 2) uses - it works with Rapid Shot. Also, if you get lucky and get your hands on a Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy +4, it works that way, and IIRC there's one more "named" crossbow that exhibits this hidden feature.

    The ones that actually list they shoot more than one bolt per round will NOT work with Rapid Shot.

    Just note that since there's no Everlast Bolt for crossbows, be prepared to freight upwards of 1,000 bolts with you in HOF mode - you'll burn through them like there's no tomorrow.

    Interesting. Do those special crossbows get extra attacks for BAB 6+? If not, you might as well stick with the hell bolters or longbows.

    JT, I used DLTCEP to look at these xbows to see if there was something different about them. But I couldn't find anything different in them from any of the other 1 attk/rnd xbows. If Rapid Shot works with the xbows that Sir Rechet mentioned, I cannot see why. They're both coded to only 1 shot per round and are defined as xbows, etc. if there's some difference, perhaps it's in the ITM files' binaries.
