[IMG] Go see it. Excellent movie chock full of incredible music and excellent performance by Foxx and others. I can only use superlatives when talking about this movie.

I thought Foxx was terrific but the movie itself sucked, IMO. Too many forced melodramatic cliches cluttering the joint. I had to laugh everytime the film tried hitting me over the head with Ray's panic attacks involving water/drowning or his dead mother barking at him to explain his character flaws(as if humans are supposed to be flawless but unusually talented people are often plagued by a corresponding trauma or darkside the rest of us do not have any clue about) .

It just wasn't well done. Poorly written, cliche, full of holes(like the movie was supposed to be another hour longer but they got tired of filming or something!?).

Khm, cliche? Well, as far as Ray's life was cliche, I guess... but that's hardly the movie's fault. Not sure where you get the "poorly written" or "full of holes" from either. Care to explain?

Akk! Sorry...forgot all about this thread.

Well, I don't know that ANYBODY's life is cliche. WHat I meant was that I had seen this presentation before in biopics(dozens of times, no less!). It seemed fairly typical to me.

Well, the moivie itself CANNOT be at 'fault'. But the writer(s) and driector most certainly CAN be!

Sure, but keep in mind that opinions are like arses and all...

What I was getting at was, some things in the script should have been wrappede up a bit within the script by the story's end. To be fair, maybe these things were never "wrapped up" for Ray in real life(the squabbles between his associates who may or may not have been ripping him off and who exactly WAS ripping him off, etc.).

Also the recurring aquaphobia(hydrophobia?) that seemed a bit over the top. I mean for the love of Pete! I watched my own mother attempt to slash her writs with a straight razor when I was like 8 years old and a few other traumatic incidents myself(worse than what happened with my mom by far!) but I do not see rivers of blood every time I leave a hotel room or something!?
I understand that they have of exagerate for dramatic effect but it just seemed sort of ...'forced'.

    I don't knpw.
