    [IMG] Frequently Asked Questions

    Q: What is Role-play Corner?

A: A chance to experience some of the 'magic' of PnP (Pen & Paper) D&D (and other) role-playing with human DMs and other players instead of CRPGs and AI.

    Q: How do I play?

A: By posting your actions in the appropriate threads in the Role-play Corner forum and/or joining in the live online sessions in the Minstrel's Medallion Inn (our IRC chatroom).

Due to the almost constant problems with securing the players' presence in IRC sessions, forum-based campaigns are the vastly preferred option.

    Q: Any rules about posting?

A: Standard forum rules apply, and basic good manners. Only post what you say/attempt to do. Let the other players and the DM say how the other PCs and NPCs react. Stay in character (IC). If you need to say something as 'yourself', post it in the OOC (out of character) thread. Do not leave people blocked for a response, if you know you are not going to be around for a while. Leave a note in ANT so that people can play around you.

There are also a few forum-specific rules that you need to play by, listed below the end of this FAQ.

Q: How do you resolve combat?

A: Combat is best handled in the live sessions. The DM tells you when it's your action and our trusty dicebot will roll the dice for everyone to see.

Q: What worlds/rules do you use?

A: A variety! Some campaigns are set in Faerun and use 3.5e, others are more or less custom.

    Q: When do you play?

A: Posting on the boards goes on at all times. Online sessions are set up by arrangement. Some are better suited for American players and some for Europeans.

Q: Sounds great, how do I join?

A: Contact the DM of the game you are interested in, either via PM or e-mail, or by posting in the OOC thread of the game. They will let you know what the starting conditions for their campaign are like.

    The Rules

Considering the specific nature of the Role-play Corner forum, there are a few additional rules members posting here are expected to follow:

    1. An important thing to note is that forum rules are as much in effect here as anywhere else on Boards o' Magick.

In regards to rule #1, this means that NO ONE is allowed to create additional accounts to role-play with. If, for some reason, you need to post as another character, you should simply post with your original username, and preface the post with "POSTING AS CHARACTER X" or something along those lines.

    2. We REALLY prefer not to see two or more continuous posts in a row by the same person, made within a few minutes of each other. If you do this, you are wasting board resources needlessly and bloating the thread up for no good reason. Unless you have a very good reason to reply to your own post (e.g. a total change of topic/direction from the previous post), please edit your last post instead and add any additional information there.

    3. Role-play Corner is for roleplaying posts; it is not a place to chat with your friends. We have chatrooms available to you for that. You can also use the board's private messaging (PM) system for quick communication, or the OOC threads.

    4. Character threads in Role-play Corner are meant for posts to describe the characters you are using in the role-playing threads. They are not to be used for chatting about what the character is going to do, or to criticize the character concepts of others. You can use Private Messages (PM) or the chatrooms if you need to talk with someone about their character.

    5. All notices of your absence and instructions on how the character(s) you play should be handled during your absence should be posted in the Absence Notices Thread (ANT).

    Thank you!
