I didn't post this poll in booktalk because I wanted a more general consensus about peoples reading habit and I assume that most of the people who go into booktalk are readers.

Voted other - sort of a strange combination of fiction for relaxation and only what I need to. I used to read more; now only occasional fiction and necessary stuff and internet message boards. :)

[IMG] I have Irlens Syndrome, so mostly it's reading only when I have to as the transparencies are great, but I still have to limit what I can read.

The BoM is great for example, because of the font colour and background is easier for me to see, but most websites it's migraine inducing after a short amount of time.

I chose fiction for relaxation since that fit best since that's what I read for relaxation. I read science and technology and technical books and magazines for interest more than relaxation...

Mostly fantasy and si fi pockets. When I have time and means I can read one in a day or so. I got an e-reader to cut cost in price and shipment. I am now reading both the Anita Blake as the Georgina Kincaid. I am subscribed to a tech PC magazine and a game magazine.

I voted for fiction, cause that's probably what I read most (if I ever read, that is!) But I read more stuff.

    Currently:
De Slavernij - Dutch book about slavery by the Dutch. It's something I never was taught about in school and I find it too important not to read something about.

Amerikanen fietsen niet (Americans don't ride bicycles) - A book by my cousin about his trip on his bike "From Miami to San Francisco through the Country of the Car".

A dance with dragons. I have to pick that one up again

I have subscriptions to Scientific American, Discover, and PC Gamer magazines and recently have read a book about .NET 4, C# and the WPF and a book about the USB bus and how to use (program for) it. Plus there are online sites like Anandtech and Tom's Hardware that I like to check out. Plus detailed specification sheets for Cypress processors and other chips for a project I've been working on at home (which was the reason for the .NET and USB books too).

I guess you put your reading material to a lot of good use Blackthorne. I like the science magazines but the tech manuals probably wouldn't make a lot of sense to me.

I voted non-fiction for relaxation, but it's probably more like non-fiction for passing the time. I read a lot of books by Bill Bryson, Jeremy Clarkson and people like that, but mostly in trains or on holidays. Which is a sort of relaxation I guess, but I hardly ever pick up a book at home.

And then there's the necessary stuff of course (scientific papers, manuals, Playboy articles when somebody catches you with one and you try to convince them you're not only reading it for the boobies).

What? Playboy isn't categorized under either scientific papers or manuals?
(or is it Non-fiction for relaxation, for you?)

I think Playboy would have to count as fiction.

I voted non-fiction to keep up with current events or research, y'know university textbook, scientific papers in my area of study, etc. But I actually enjoy reading those, so... I guess that's non-fiction for relaxation. Also I'm currently reading volume one of G.R.R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire*, it's fiction but I only read it when I'm on the subway or bus.

    So...yeah, that's about it.

    * As much as I hate the Lanisters, you can't deny the awesomeness of Tyron :p
