I'm scripting an NPC who, upon death, has a "special ability" of instantly ressurecting himself...as a skeleton.

The problem, though, is that I want this to occur in all of my friend's games without weird stuff happening, as we've agreed on no cheats outside of mods.

I could quite simply assign the skeleton a "Join Party," script, but that would require usage of the override file, of which none of my friends agreed to manipulating. So, I'm left with a quandry; is there a way for my character to always explode upon death, destroy all items on his person, while summoning a skeleton that is automatically recruited into our party?

I'm aware that destroying items is very easy, but not every item in the game (writing in every item is VERY tedious). Summoning and join party are easy, too, but I need a remote activation for the join party command (preferrably from my character's own script, even as he dies). The last part, exploding death, is something I'm not quite sure how to do, either.

    Thanks.

You might get more answers at a modding forum, such as one of these two:

    http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showforum=16

    http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/board,37.0.html

You could probably do it by giving the character an item keeping their minimum hit points at 1. Then have a script block in their Override slot that kicks in when their HP drop to 1 - using the scripting actions DropAllItems() (I think there's one like that off the top of my head) and then LeaveParty() and DestroySelf(), as well as creating the .CRE of your skeleton in the same location. Maybe play an animation if you want for the death effect. I don't know the filename for the chunking offhand.

If you don't DropAllItems() they will be destroyed then.

The skeleton's script could then have a block auto-joining it. That should work, though the dead guy's items will be on the floor and not the skeleton.

Of course, this will involve editing the character's scripts, but pretty much any method will, so... I am not sure why you are all reluctant to do so. I suppose you'll just have to trust each other.

You might want to check out the ACTION.IDS file for a list of things you can do; one of them is DestroyAllEquipment(). I've also heard that there is an 'amulet' item named "GOBOOM" whose effects when equipped ought to be rather obvious. :D
