What are the minimum requirements for dual-classing? Race, class, alignment. Are there specific requirements. I have started several different games and had the character as maxed out as possible but the dual-class button is shadowed. Do you have to wait before dual-classing or what?

    Help!

You must have a minimum of 15 in the primary stat of your current class. You must have a minimum of 17 in the primary stat of the class you wish to dual-class to. Your stats must meet the minimum requirements of the class you wish to dual-class to. The dual-class combination must be a valid multi-class combination (i.e., no paladin-mages). Your alignment must meet the restrictions of the class you wish to dual to.

I think that pretty much covers it, but I'm sure someone else will be able to catch anything I've left out.

For a start only Humans can dual class.

You can't dual class Paladins, Bards, barbarian, monk or sorcerer classes or kits.

The dual class options fit in with the multiclass options. So you can't dual a cleric to a druid.

You have to have at least 15 stat points in the first classes prime stat. (fighter = strength etc)
And you have to have 17 in the prime stat of the class you want to enter.
You can only dual class after reaching level two in your original class.

    (a) dualclassing is for human race only

    (b) you need to fulfill the requirements for *both* classes. minimum requirements for the "base-classes":
-fighter min str: 9, rest min: 3
-thief minm dex: 9, rest min: 3
-cleric min wis: 9, rest min: 3
-mage min int: 9, rest min: 3
-ranger min con & wis both: 14 ; min str & dex both: 13. so basically ever ranger should be able to be dualed to a cleric by nature

    (c) the class combination *must be* a valid multiclassing option in one of the race-class combos.

    (d) you can only choose a kit for your first class.

    (e) you can use the abilities of both classes, when all your classes are active (means: when dualclassing is finished => means: you have to be on level higher in your new class than in your first class => Example: fighter lvl-6/ thief lvl-7)

    (f) you are limited to the restrictions of your most restrictive class. If you dual a stalker (ranger) to a cleric, you can only use cleric-type weapons while also beeing restricted to leather armor (but who cares - a cleric that has stalth ... unfortunately the stalkers backstabbing ability can´t work with blunt or spiked weapons :D )

Here are the rules straight from the advanced_dungeons_and_drangons.txt file that you can download here on Sorcerer's Place:

There are several conditions to Dual Classing:

    1) You MUST be Human.
    2) You MUST be at least level 2.
    3) You MUST start from a Class that can dual. Paladins/Bards cannot Dual
to anything, nor can you dual anyone to a Bard/Paladin.
    4) The combination MUST be a valid "Multiclass." If you can't find it
on the list above (ignore the race restrictions), then you can't dual
it. An example of an ILLEGAL class would be a Fighter/Ranger. Not
a valid Multiclass, so you can't Dual it either.
    5) You need to have sufficient Stats. You need at least 15 in the Prime
Stats of your current class (i.e. 15 STR for a Fighter) and at least
17 in the Prime Stats of your desired class (i.e. 17 INT for a Mage).

Note: Specialist Mages have an extra "Prime Stat" beyond just INT.

    6) Finally there is also an Alignment Requirement. Thieves cannot be
Lawful, so a Lawful Good Fighter cannot Dual to a Thief. Also Druids
    must be True Neutral.

    [IMG] Note:

In Ragusa's post (b) - about minimum stats - is incorrect!

(Minimum primary stat is 15 in first class and 17 in second class, as has been stated in other posts here.)

[IMG] Well, that´s correct Earl Grey. *sob* well, I simply tried out the minimum required stats for a single class char. I didn´t try to dual the chars later.

Basically the reason for my mistake was my ignorance about the AD&D PnP rules ... I apologize for that. Thanks to BTA I´m wiser now ;)
