Resting in dungeon BUG

Well my game was bug-free despite all those heavy mods I had upto now. Then I got the subrace mod recently. (look at my Subrace topic please) then a nasty bug occured.

I can't rest in a dungeon or wilderness. When I do the game freezes completely. CTRL+ALT+DEL, ALT+TAB, ALT+F4 all fails. I had to reset the computer manually (which I hate), this is a bummer!

Suspecting that the subrace mod was to blame I uninstalled it, nope. No effect.

This bug started in Hell in SoA'S finale. I loaded a save in Suldenasellar and I was able to rest normally. BUT not in Hell.

After Improved Irenicus battle, (I beat it on insane, narry a scratch on my party, only one lich injured my PC with consecutive Melf's acid arrows, They do great damage on insane each round. Oh well nothing a potion or two could cure.) I started ToB. To my joy I was able to rest before Imp. Illisera battle in the wilderness.

Then once I entered my Pocket Plane I was unable to rest again.

Luckily I am able to rest in inns. For some reason.

So each time I need a rest I CLUAConsole to Tankard in Saradush to rest and CLUA back to my place. It is no cheat, I tell you! I actually PAY for the normally free resting. And I pay for the most expensive rooms!

So what do you think the cause can be? It is strange that entering hell or Pocket plane triggers this bug and it sticks with the game, I can'T rest anywhere now but in inns.

Any suggestions? I could use WISH spell for re-memorizing spells but once the fatigue comes I really will need to rest.

Can I CLUA back to Tankard after Saradush is burned down? Will it cause bugs?

I don't know if the bartender will still be there (since returning to Saradush is not in the plot of the game, I don't think anything (special) will change there; it will just become a "don't care" area once it has no rule in the story), I would have to check game files to find it out, but I think it shouldn't cause any bugs if you return there only to rest.
As for the problem, any mod you have installed is a potential source. I would need to check their files to be able to decide what causes the problem. It is very likely that one of the mods.

 

Sure I will return there only to rest. If it fails I can go WAAAY back to Copper Coronet but will it cause nasty bugs if I jump between SoA and ToB locations frequently? I fear so.

But there is always Athmekran (or what was the city's name? Forgive me if I mistype) right? Hmm...after I kill Yaga Shura I must go to Balthazar's town as fast as possible. Well it even sounds like fun, a limitation at least. Thanks that WISH spell works still but it does not wipe out fatigue, does it?

I don't know the cause. I have so many mods. Last time I finished ToB I didn't have this bug. I installed some little tweaks, BG1 casting sounds, Planar sphere mod, Druidic Sorc. kit mod and subrace mod as I started a new game but I don't think these could cause such a bug. Can they?

Maybe some corruption about the little movies of dungeon resting and wilderness resting?

EDIT:I don't think so, I tried in a new game and previous saves and resting works normally so far. It somehow becomes buggy whenever I reach Pocket Plane or Hell in SoA. WHY?

 

Those are special areas (~extraplanar), I should check them to be able tell more, but I don't have time, I'm sorry.

Any mod can be assumed to cause any bug, basically. Based on their names, they shouldn't though, you're right.

The risk shouldn't be ignored, but I don't think it can cause any bugs, especially if you return just to rest, and don't interact with SoA. However, I can't think of a reason why resting in Saradush would fail -- but of course I didn't check it, so there may be something I overlooked.

 

What happens when you try to rest? What message does the game give you, if any?

 

A solution could also be a potion giving you the benefits of resting... TDD have such a potion (restore spells, remove fatigue), I can hook it up for you, and then mail you the .itm file so that you can CLUA it into your game to use instead of resting, if you'd like that?

 

Good idea. If you can't find it, or just want me to change it to have practically unlimited uses (charges), I can help.

 

I tried it today and many scripts (conversations) didn't trigger. That might be caused by unrestarted Big Picture, however.
There is also no way of travelling between areas, as I remain on ToB wordlmap.

It does not give any messages. Just the screen freezes in the game screen, where I can see my characters and environment normally but it TOTALLY locks my computer. Most weird. NO mouse scrolling, no ALT+F4 or other thing works. Only manual resetting. Which I know is harmful for the computer.

Tried resting via mage/cleric spell book screen, it didn't work too. Shame.

Sure this sounds like a good idea! Anything is just better than uninstalling and re-installing my BG2 with all 1001 kinds of different mods! Ewww this would be so boring, tiring and I could have newer, nastier bugs.

Ah and trust me that I will not abuse it in anyway. I like my games HARD as you know!

 

Yeah, that is weird. Might be that one of your mods is trying to call some illegal function when you rest (like when your party members initiate dialogs at bedtime). Which is the other thing - if you can't rest, you're probably missing out on something. Then again anything is better than having to restart the game, I guess.

Edit: actually it oughtn't be that, I've had those sorts of problems and they never totally lock up my computer. Unless you're using Win 98, or another OS that has trouble handling software crashes.

I think that making a Weidu setup for a CLUA-able .itm file (which overwrites nothing) is a bit funny, but your call.

 

Just for adding the desc . Besides, it is good exercise . No, really... DLCTEP has messed up the desc on my items before, so I just personally finds weidu to be easier (because it is more stable).

 

DLTCEP can mess up things sometimes, because it is not user-friendly enough. If you need to edit descriptions directly, use Talk Table Editor, by the way.
WeiDU and DLTCEP are not the same category by the way, but I got what you meant

Anyway, I will try it next week when I get home. Hope it works! Not that I don't trust your abilities, no sir, after trying your BoM item pack I can say you have the talent! Just with all those heavy mods I can expect always worst of the things...

Oh BTW don'T worry, I won't abuse it the slightest! I love my games as hard as possible you know!

I had a revelation. Can Sola romance cause this bug? I am romancing him throughly, he even gained Moonray ability. ANd don't give me that look his romance is really innocent, we debate pylosophy most of the time, it is fun with all those long texts and different answers. besides he is a real powerhouse, dual wielding +5 vorpal weapons, %120+ MR, all minus saving throws and -20 AC with some mod items. He even has 4-5 9th level spells thanks to one of his romance rewards. He is really powerful! And he has many fighter HLAs as well. Time Stop plus GWW is evilly fun!

I realized that he hadn't initiated a love talk with me for a long time. When I try to initiate the love talk by talking to him, nothing happens. Then I guess, that he should do something or something should occur when we rest on the wilderness or dungeon. BUT it can'T be done, for some reason it freezes my computer. Can this be?

It started in Hell in SoA. When I killed JonBon and went to ToB, I guess the love-talk timer was re-set, as I was able to rest before Illisera fight without problems. After it, when I reached PocketPlane and made the first test, his love talk time came, (Viccy and Jaheira already talked) which must be triggered by a rest outside, I suppose, which causes the bug. Am I right? Hmm I should dump Sola and try again maybe it works. If I am right, what is the cause? Is my romance locked? Can't I do anything to progress it? ı don't really remember but I guess that last love talk was something when we were resting, he kept reading one of his poems again when my PC was acting like he was sleeping. (he is not that rude normally) This happened just before going to Suldenesellar.

What do you think? Can I be right? Unfourtunately I can't try dumping Sola right now, as I am away from home, my personal computer, BG2 and Fearun.

Oh and I had cheated a little bit. I SKed Sola into a half-elf inorder to allow him to use the Axe of the Elven Scalp, which is a cool +5 vorpal axe, +%50 MR, and gives protection from elves. An elf wielding it can not cast spells on himself (stoneskin, mirror image) so I changed Sola into a half-elf. Can this be the cause of the bug?

I've heard of multi-romance patches (which it sounds like you have) causing problems with mod NPC romances. I'm pretty sure the Imoen mod isn't really compatible with the multi-romance patch, so that might be your problem.

 

So how did the potion went? I'm a little curious.

 

As I stated above I am away from my home, my college is in Ankara so I can'T play BG2 now, not until I get to home next week. But I really suspect Sola romance is to blame.

I don't have Immy romance installed right now.
