There are the IotW and GMotW plaques of shame, but there is no reward badge or anything.
I was thinking along the lines of contributer of the week -- for people who post a lot of useful stuff, close to getting an avatar but not yet there -- or the helpdesk badge -- for those who solve a lot of problems, technical, scripting issues etc. --
Anyone supports the notion - comments from Tal - other suggestions - here they should be.

Getting an avatar isn't quite as onerous as your post seems to make it.

If you contribute anything that gets posted, even if it's one small thing, you get an avatar. If you buy anything through SP as a "middleman", you get an avatar.

Your idea has some merit, though Tal certainly has the right to decide whether it's worth implementing (as someone who runs and pays for the server). For now, the negative plagues you're referring to are designed to deter worst-case offenders.

[IMG] There are no reward plaques because avatars/portraits effectively serve that function. Although you normally can't get one just for posting here, any sort of contribution to SP gets you one. The reward badges idea has merit, but there's usually no one who would particulary stand out enough to deserve a special reward. If there are any such people, they are usually made moderators (and get their own avatar/portrait). And since Extremist has been made one last, there haven't really been any candidates.

That's a good idea. Maybe you could have a reward for most inspiring post in the AoDA, and one for the week's top poster. But then that could encourage the idiots who post only to get their post count up....Oh well, you could always put their post count down for inane posts :) Hey! how about a tag for inane poster of the week too?

[IMG] if you start a couple of rewards there will most likely be a whole list of strangely odd ones that people make up for Tal to implement, he would be bombarded with useless ideas. I think it's fine how it is, makes getting an Avatar more... dunno, unique I suppose.

Start it and you're never going to see the end of it. Seems nice, but practice will kill the fun. Ratings could be better. Some humorous ones like those held by Mystra for the chatroom - which for example tell us all how much beating deBhaal's record comprises ;) .

I have thought about this before. But Tal is right, the avatars best serve this function.

I mean if we had an "ideal poster o' the week" award, a lot of posters would be competing and getting upset when after 7 weeks they still hadn't "won".

If you're a good poster, people will know. You don't need a plaque, your posts will do the speaking.

Also there are so many posters at the boards you have to consider, that it would be very hard to find the best poster (especially for one week)

I think there should be more punishment and/or humiliation plaques. Like a plaque for the person who (no matter what) just won't listen to reason. Like if you've proved his argument invalid but he just sticks his tongue out at you and runs away... call it SPECIAL plaque of Immaturity :(
