Ridiculous lag.

I am playing IWD for the first time and though Im enjoying it, I am troubled by this horrid lag. It is most intense when there are area effect spells(such as cloudkill) to the effect of slowing the game down to a crawl. When there are clowds or such present I cant even normally move my mouse! Minor lag occurs here and there. Every time I enter a new area, sleep, load etc.(after the black sceen or loading is over) I get medium lag for a short time. Some other spells also cause lagg.

I find this odd because I have no such problems in BG 2/ToB(perhaps it occurs in BG 1, havent played it). In SoA I can fight hordes of monsters while spamming cloudkills and other spells all over the screen without *any* lagg happening.

Maybe you can somehow optimize this? Perhaps this is because it isnt compatible with newer hardware or drivers or XP or other some such?

    My stats:

    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 2.80GHz(2 CPUs)

    Memory: 1022MB RAM

    DirectX 9.0

    GeForce 6600 GT

I'd try the following if you haven't done it yet:

    - install the latest patches
    - use the compatibility mode of XP
    - play around with the IWD configuration, especially with the 3d acceleration
    - delete the files in the IWD cache
    - uninstall, delete everything, reinstall and patch in the correct order

If you search the forum you'll surely get a lot of other suggestions.

    ~upgrade to DX 9.0c
~try using an older driver version than what you currently have. (this fix works great for the baldur's gate series, so should work great with iwd.)
~3D acceleration was HORRIBLE in the BG series for nearly everyone. the devs recommended turning it off. so, try turning it off in IWD.
