I'm working on a party based on Robin Hood and some of the Merry Men, mostly based on an "Ivanhoe" type of Robin Hood character. What do you think of this group:

    Robin Hood, CG H Ranger ?/Rogue x, 14-16-10-12-10-14

    Little John, NG H Fighter 4/Barbarian x, 18-12-16-8-8-10

    Friar Tuck, CG H Cleric x, 10-10-14-10-18-14

Gilbert of the White Hand, LG H Fighter 4/ Pal x, 15-10-12-10-12-15

    Alan-a-Dale, TN H Bard 11/Sorcerer x, 10-12-10-16-10-18

I'm not sure on some of the stats--I don't want to min/max too much, but these are "legendary" characters. I'm also not sure of how many Ranger levels to give Robin -- just stick with one, or go for more? How about the Bard/Sorc mix for Alan? I'd stick with just bard, but without the Sorc levels, I'm a little magic-lite. Thanks for any input.

Those are easy enough to get off of books. For Robin, since he was in the forest alot, I'd give him at least 10 levels in Ranger.

Ok Acrux, a couple of thoughts...

    1) It's very noble of you not to min-max, but it won't help you during the game... Certain characters just don't need certain abilities, so why waste valuable ability points on them...?

    2) To reach acceptable levels at the end of the game, you have one character too much in your party... I'd let Gilbert stay in Sherwood Forest, and move on with Robin, John, Tuck and Alan...

    3) Drop the bard lvl's for Alan! Instead, make him a pally 2/sorcerer X !
When you have enough healing spells at your disposal, dual your cleric over to a fighter!
    You should have a balanced party with a ranger/rogue, a fighter/barbarian, a cleric/fighter and a pally/sorcerer...

Thanks for those suggestions, Spliff, but the reason I'm trying out this party is to RP. I usually do the powergaming thing in IWDII, so I thought I'd try this a something different.

I suppose I could drop Gilbert (I had originally thought of dropping him for just 4 members), but I don't usually like smaller parties -- I have much more fun with 5 or 6. I know 4 is optimal for levels, but I'm always wishing that I had someone else along for the plundering! :) Also, I have Weimer's "always get a little xp" component installed -- I never like going through sections of the game getting any xp for my troubles.

Adding some fighter levels to Tuck -- might be a good idea. It would definitely fit in with his personality.

As for dropping Alan's bard levels -- never! After all, his character (originally) was a minstrel. I've actually felt a little guilty about giving him sorcerer levels. I'd feel even more guilty if I dropped his bard abilities for a paladin!

I know the party is pretty unbalanced, and I do thank you for your advice. Maybe I'll try reworking everything around with your 4 character idea.

I don't know about Fighter levels for Tuck - what about Monk levels? That would fit with the whole "Friar" bit somewhat better, I think ... although I can see how Lawful Alignment could be problematic! And yeah, I'd drop Gilbert, especially if you've got Weimer's mod installed. And I'd give Robin plenty of Ranger levels. I like Rangers, and you don't need much from Rogues, anyway. Little John sounds cool; I've always thought about putting together a character who's badass with staffs, but never got round to it!

You could maybe lower the int and cha on some of your charachters. I don't think friar tuck and little John are smart, at least not the last time I saw the movies. Otherwise it's a good idea to play the robin hood-team. I usually like themes put i often min-max their abilities to make them a little better.
Then about the number of chars you play with: It's not that important. I've played with 1-4 chars a couple of times but i always prefer playing with 5-6. Even in a 6-p-party you may be able to cast the most powerful spells at end of normal mode and after that the spellcasters won't be much better. It's not fun when the party reaches max-lvl in middle of hof and having to play the rest of the game without ever be able to lvl. My last 4-p-party reached lvl 23 at the "time-loop" (with quite extensive lvl-squatting). Don't remember what lvl they had when I finished normal mode but I think it was close to 30.

What about that saracen guy from the TV series? The guy who dual wielded those swords off his back? He rocked. You need him for sure.

Friar Tuck as monk1/cleric X. He never did wear any armor.

    @Harbourboy:
Do you mean Will Scarlet? I think he'd make a great dual-wielding rogue. Plus, that would free up Robin Hood to be truer to however Acrux wants to make him.

Will Scarlet O'Hara. (He's from Georgia.) ;) Make him dual wield daggers, say fighter/rogue 5/x, and there you go!

 God, I hope we're not going to have that discussion. However, since Maid Marion's role is never really defined, you could make her your arcane spellcaster to free up Alan-A-Dale to be a true bard!

You could also go with the crew from "Men in Tights"... Should be a lot of fun if you can get portraits and voice sets...!!! (if you rent the movie, you could capture some funny sounds and make your own voice sets...)
